Bernstine over LJ?

The guy playing nickel is a member of the secondary, not linebacker.

So you're telling me that what Morgan and Broomfield are doing is different than what Benton was doing? Also, I realize that. My point is that Benton wasn't really playing a true corner type of roll. As with Morgan and Broomfield, they are players that can play at the line of scrimmage, yet have the skills to cover. Call it a undersized LBer, box safety, whatever but they aren't in the game to simply cover people.

This thread has really gone off track mostly due to me. Sorry.

They're playing the same position. IIRC, though, and help me if I'm wrong, but when we played 4-3, TB played CB and only shifted over to nickel when we went to the 4-2-5.

I think we started like that but if I remember right, early on, we mostly went to the 4-2-5 package and Reeves was on the field a lot.

There are a lot of names for that position. This staff has listed it as NB and SAM over the three years. It's a matter of how you term things I guess. I think of a nickle as a a true corner who simply covers, not a guy that does the things that Benton, Morgan, and Broomfield have done. I suppose this is the sort of confusion coaches talk about when a new guy comes in and calls things different names. I know we have discussed this position before when I initially called it a "hybrid" position. I think we should just call it the B12 SAM at this point though.

If the coaching staff thinks LJ's speed is suspect, then they will get him to work on it in the off season. A lot of people act as if speed can't be improved upon. I'm sure he will be working even harder in the off season (hopefully) to improve his speed. if he does this, he will have a good shot at making a decent depth chart position IMO.

Oh I see where you're coming from now. Regardless he was drafted based upon his work at safety.
Which wasn't that great. I really don't get how Prater and Bernstine get picked and LJ doesn't. I'm sure he'll get a shot and at least now he may have options which is better than being forced into somewhere you don't want to be.

Like it or not NFL teams typically draft LJ potential and pure talent than production. In that aspect Bernstine > Johnson. If they did draft more on production Johnson > Bernstine.

Not too bad, it only took HawkeyeNation a little over 3 hours to copy/paste the link to this thread over there. I actually figured they would have lasted at least 5 hours, especially since they don't care about us and all.

But since you know that HN linked it, you don't care about them either, right?

Late in the draft, teams are looking for special teams contributors as much as anything. I think Bernstine has a better chance to making a ST contribution than LJ.

who sticks is all that matters ............ we'll see.

So you care about big brother? Can you explain the "HOK" thing too? It doesn't seem to make sense either. I thought "squawk" was the go-to around here?
Do I care about Iowa? Yes, I care to see them lose and fail in everything they do. Does that count?
Do you care about ISU? Wait, nevermind, I already know you do since you already made an account over here.

I don't know what the HOK thing means, I never use that word.
I don't use squawk either. I assume they mean the same thing as clown though.

He is what he is. He's not going to significantly improve his speed at this point. Hee spent two months working on it prior to the combine and he's as fast now as he will ever be.

He's probably not going to run a faster 40 time, but 40's aren't that important from here on out anyways.

Once he goes to camp, it's all about how he plays. The coaches will keep the productive CB's and sh*tcan the ones that can't cover.

It's that simple.
