Cook County prosecutors said Friday that they will not file charges against Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro for criminal sexual assault.
"We're pleased for Starlin that this issue is resolved and glad that he can continue to keep his focus on baseball activities," Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said.
The state's attorney's office and Chicago police reviewed the case and found insufficient evidence to charge the 21-year-old player, state's attorney spokeswoman Sally Daly said.
Chicago police said in January that they were investigating an allegation of sexual assault against Castro. Castro said he cooperated with authorities. His attorneys have said the allegations are baseless.
"I understand that being a member of the Cubs means being a hard worker on the field and a good citizen off the field, and I always want to carry myself in a way that exceeds high expectations," Castro said in a statement released by the Cubs on Jan. 13.
Castro was chosen to the All-Star team last year in his first full major league season when he batted .307 and led the National League with 207 hits. The young star made his major league debut in May 2010. Chicago signed him as an undrafted free agent in 2006.

Do you realize this thread isn't about Ozzie?

As I was typing Starlin just committed another one. That's 2 today...I like the kid and think he'll still be a very good player, but he really has a long way to go defensively.

I know but I was using him to make a point. He made 25 errors when he was 24 and he turned out OK, didn't he? My point is, Castro is only 22, there is no rush to move him off SS.

I get what point you were trying to make and I wasn't saying Starlin can't turn it around or should be moved from SS. But you can't compare Ozzie with Starlin at this point. 13 gold gloves is a long way to go. And even at his worst - like you said 25 errors for Smith. Castro is a third of the way there already 15 games into a 162 game season. Kid needs a paradigm shift in his game and I think a lot of it is just mental, he's got speed and can track stuff down, just seems to lack fundamentals of getting the glove in the right place or a good grip on the ball or how much time he has to make the play sometimes.

the person is comparing starlin to ozzie at this point in his career at 22 not when he was finished.

actually ozzie didnt start until he was 23 and he had 25 errors. Starlin is still a year off that pace and not to mention he is batting much higher then him.

We aren't talking about batting. At all. He brought up the Ozzie comparison for errors, and it isn't close. Age doesn't matter as much as experience, and their rookie years weren't too close.
