There has been a ton of negativity with the program lately, and I have to say most is justified. We did not have our wrestlers set to perform at their highest level at nationals, and it showed in the results. the good thing is next year looks alot more promising from an experience and depth perspective. With that in mind, I am going to pick the Cyclones I think will AA next year. We didn't get anyone on the podium this year, but if KJ can correct some internal issues with the program, 2013 looks good.

Here they are

Ryak Finch- 125- Has all the blue chip talent you want, and the 125 class loses a few AA of its own. It is also a class where talent will tend to go up a weight class, so if FInch stays, which he should, I would expect him to move up the ladder. Low AA possibilty here. Once again, our ightweight issues need to start getting addressed this offseason.

Luke Goettl- 141- All the talent to be a champ, and zero of the consistency. If he can get and stay on track next year, he could be a shocker at the tournament. I am going to go half full here and say high AA potential. The 141 class loses a lot of the top guys, and even with some 133 possibly making the jump, he will have a great shot to make some noise.

Destin McCauley-149- Coming off an Olympic RS, is Mr. McCauley. Now not all blue hci p recruits get it done their first year, but this kid is a special recruit. Not in the realm of David Taylor, but near there. I think he may be the surest thing on our roster next year, which tell you what the program looks like.

Kyven Gadsen- 197-This all depends on his recovery from shoulder surgery. If he is able to rehab properly, and keep himself in wrestling shape, the sky is the limit for him. 197 was not strong this year, and loses a ton from nationals. This is the perfect opportunity for making a splash. His toughest competition will likely come in conference from Rosholt at OSU.

Matt Gibson- HW- He was arguably the only wrestler on the team that progressed from start to finish. The HW class is another class that loses a lot of the top guys, and who knows if Gelogaev recovers from pectoral surgery. He continues to make progress, low AA should be in his future.

Lets start some positive debate and see if we can get excited and not depressed. There is a lot of good ptoential in next years team.

I agree that all these guys have legit chances to AA next year. Plus Spangler if he isn't done. I'd say McCauley has the best chance, followed by Goettl if he can put his freshman inconsistencies behind him. Gadsen is tough to project because we've never really seen him on the mat yet.

All of the above, but I'll add Beard. He learned a lot this year and a full year in the room added to him starting the year in "wrestling shape" should equate to more success next year. I think he can be a very good one.

Matt Gibson- HW- The HW class is another class that loses a lot of the top guys

I don't know why this keeps getting repeated. There are no less than 9 All-Americans returning at HWT for next season--6 from this year, Trice and Bradley come off RS and Gelogaev should be back. It may be the toughest weight class in the country. Gibson didn't make the round of 12 this season. He has improved considerably but it's quite a leap to think he's a good bet to be an AA.

I'd be inclined to go with Beard.
