I did a quick search, and couldn't find any recent tablet suggestion topics.

Anywho, I don't want an iPad. I was looking at the Samsung Galexy Tab, and the Sony S, and have seen great reviews on both. Really, I'm just looking to downsize from my laptop. All I really do is surf the web, check email, and play flash games (during movie days while I'm teaching... #1 teach right here).

I would also like to be able to tether it via wifi or bluetooth to my HTC phone.

ASUS - Eee- ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101

These are really cool. Make sure you get the keyboard base. I believe it has a USB port as well, which is cool if you want to hook up a mouse and treat it like a netbook. Very sweet machine.

We bought a Toshiba Thrive about 3 weeks ago and have been very happy with it. The Toshiba got the nod over the Samsung based on it's expandable storage option (card reader). Otherwise from the research I did and the conversations I had, they are pretty much the same. Battery life is great and plenty of apps available.

Might as well get the Transformer Prime if you go this route.

I've had mine for a couple months and it's been great. The keyboard is small, but easy to get used to.

I had a Galaxy Tab. It was nice. I sent it back though. Just wasn't good enough.

I have the Asus Transformer Prime. I really like it. But there are definitely some bad ones out there. Asus pretty much screwed up the release.

ASUS Prime....Motorola Xoom Family addition is a good lower cost alternative - note, it will get ICM....and google owns Motorola now.

I was looking into one for the wife. For the android's it came down to the Samsung tab 10.1 vs the Asus prime. Samsung was quite a bit lighter, but only dual core. Prime has seen some complaints over poor wifi signals due to the metal back. It also felt quite heavy and thick. I did not consider the Sony since I've had horrible experiences with both their computers and cell phones.

In the end, she got the ipad3. Its not bad, but I told her she's on her own with itunes because I will not allow that on my computer.

It's ICS; Ice Cream Sandwich. I think for the next year at least Motorola won't get anything sooner because of Google owning them. It appears that Google is setting out to prove that they won't show favoritism to Moto and so they are going out of their way to give others first access. Word is the Google Tab is going to be made by Asus.

Really good info here so far, thanks guys.

I swore I would never go the tablet rout, but now that I travel to different classrooms, it'd be nice to have everything all in one little tablet rather than carrying around the laptop. It's also sad that these tablets are almost as powerful as the dino-top I'm using right now.

I've had both and the Asus is actually bit thinner, but it's tappered instead of flat so the edges are much thinner. The weight difference is 0.04 pounds. I can't tell a difference in weight. So to me the Asus feels better to hold and use.

I got a refurbished Vizio tablet on woot! that I really like. It just updated to Honeycomb which makes it even better. It does everything I want it (web surfing, games, netflix, Kindle Reader) at a fraction of the cost of most tablets. And yes, you can wireless tether to your phone. My kids watch Netflix on it all the time in the car while tethered to my phone.

It also has an IR blaster so I can use it as a programmable remote.

I got it for $165 with a nice, leather case/stand. I wouldn't pay the $299 retail though. There are better options at close to that price.

Sounds like you're confusing the Transformer Prime with the original Transformer.

The Prime is 0.04 pounds heavier than the Galaxy Tab (0.04 lighter than the iPad 2). It is also 0.3 mm slimmer than the Samsung (0.5 slimmer than the Apple). Differences not worth noting, really.

At the time I was doing my comparison, the Prime was $100 cheaper than both of the others for the same memory (i.e. $499 vs $599 for 32 GB models). Prices for the Tab and iPad have since dropped although I'm not sure how much.

I ended up purchasing the Transformer Prime and it's really an excellent device.

Even if you don't want an iPad, you still want an iPad. If you don't get an iPad then you know what your going to get? DUDE, YOUR GETTING A DELL!!!!
