I found this one on SB Nation today in an article summary of Round 2.

"I really like Fred Hoiberg as a coach. He knew that UConn had a couple guards who apply great pressure so this week he put in a new package that had Royce White bringing the ball up as a point-forward. It worked brilliantly.":twitcy:

Anybody found others?

College Gameday on ESPN few minutes ago

Jimmy Dikes I believe said "Not athletic enough to force them self defensively on anyone. and Gotlieb chips in ISU not a great defensive team" Seriously WTF!!!!!!!!!

Depends on the metric. Iowa State is awful at forcing turnovers. If you measure defensive quality based on how well we cause turnovers or turn turnovers into points, there is a way to see us as below average.

Neither are wrong. We can't force ourselves on anyone.

It's OK to say that we're not a great defensive team. We're solid, but we won't be known for our defense, because the offense is so dynamic. That's what gets attention.

When your offense draws attention, you'll never be known as a great defensive team. In our case, solid is probably a better picture, anyway.

Iowa State is not a great defensive team. Especially in the post. I don't know why people keep jumping all over Gottlieb for saying that.

One of my biggest worries is defending their bigs down low. We can't afford to have RW in foul trouble and Ejim is not big enough to body up. We will need some Booker time to match up inside.

I really hope Royce can take his man off the dribble and get him into foul trouble. (Please no charges!) UK has played most of their minutes with 6 studs and haven't had to dig deep.

I totally agree. We play solid team defense, and usually out rebound our opponents despite being smaller. We play straight up and force you to beat us with something outside of your comfort zone. If anything Fred seems to focus alot on D and rebounding, and that is the reason we are here.

I don't like when people act like we cant play D because we don't have steals or blocks. A lot of times good shot blockers are forcing themselves out of rebounding position, which can cause problems with a team that rebounds well.

I think this game is another one made for Booker down low. He'll make another nice contribution.

ISU allows opponents to shoot 43.4% on the season good for 181st in the NCAA. I don't think characterizing ISU as a below average defensive team is beyond the pale.

BOOM! ZING! Good one, Hopp. Sorry gotta spread the rep otherwise I'd +1 ya. I remember making him brick one in Hilton when the pep band chanted, "No means No!"

That was our best free throw chant EVER!!!

I heard the band chant the ball is bigger than the rim last night. It worked too.

That ones older than me even. ****** I feel old.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks we're weak at defending the post. It's probably untried, as the Big 12's best scorers are not post players, but we haven't let any bigs go off on us, and the ones who have were nailing 10-15' jumpers.

Our post defenders played a great game last night. They were killing UCONN on the boards and smothering them down low. It was to the point that UCONN didn't even attempt to get the ball down low after their first 3 or 4 attempts.

Can't believe people here agree with media that we can't play any D. Yeah because our offense won all of our games for us. Some of you need a clue.

Nobody here said that ISU can't play any D, neither did Gottlieb. I'm pretty sure that Gottlieb said that the Cyclones aren't a GREAT defensive team and I don't think that's an unfair statement. If you think ISU is a great defensive team, make the case.

Well for starters take the two KSU games. At Hilton down 14 we got baskets but without defensive stops no way we win. In Manhattan after KSU made their run it was our defense got us control of the game back. Also the home game with OU in the 2nd half we went a long period of time w/o scoring but it was a D that kept us in when we weren't scoring also we had held UCONN to 14 point at the 8 minute mark of the first half.

Those are all stretches during games. How did ISU get behind that much against Kansas State? Defensive lapses had a lot to do with it. A GREAT defensive team doesn't only play great defense for part of the game. If you think Iowa State is a great defensive team you are a blind homer and YOU need to get a clue.
