idk if this has been covered, but percy has been really good down the stretch. we won, so i am good with it, but any ideas why he didnt play?

Coach Hoiberg really plays what he considers are good match-ups. On the post-game radio interview with John and Eric he said he will need Percy against Kentucky.

Go Cyclones!!!

That was my thought as well because hopefully Davis guards royce and pulls him from the basket. If that happens we will need a low post scorer in the game and ejim and booker don't really provide that. I see Percy getting 12-18 mins depending on his production

Yep, he certainly does. I didn't feel like Percy was a particularly good match up for this game, but how nice is it to have so many players who can play at a high level? This team is legitimately nine deep, and Fred is great at putting the best line up on the floor for a specific match up.

Conn's lottery pick big guy got 2 points. Fred pulled the right strings considering he doesn't know what he's doing.

did we win?

Why do you care?

Drives me nuts when people post stuff like this to legitimate questions. But to answer you, because maybe he was hurt, maybe he is in the dog house, maybe he had the flu. Somebody just was wondering, as Gibson was giving us huge productive minutes down the stretch of the season, and didn't even get his sweats off last night. Good news is it sounds like it was a machup thing, and he'll be ready to go. Makes perfect sense as Booker played great last night and Ejim played great defense even though he was vastly smaller than those he was asked to cover.

Oh, and since you asked, yes we won.:jimlad:

Amen to that. I'm not second guessing Fred's decision. I'll just sit back and cheer. Seems he's got this game plan working.

Yea in postgame lockeroom speech, he told the guys who didnt get a lot of minutes to be ready because Kentucky will be their time. I assume he meant Gibson there. He is gonna have to play some strong D inside for us.

I was wondering about that too. I think it was about matchups and whether he was needed. Ejim played great and didn't get into foul trouble; neither did Royce. Booker played really well but didn't play that much either. I think that if Percy was needed he would have been in there.

I think for two reasons:

1- He's a FR so Fred wanted to rely on some of our more experienced guys.

2- UConn's bigs are very good defending, and Percy is an offensive oriented player so you're essentially shifting the match-ups in their favor by playing him. Where as with Ejim, Royce and Booker, they can all play outside-in, which shifts the match-up back to our advantage.
