Was listening to Marty on 1700 and he commented on Witosky doing a potential piece on Iowa State MBB (around the 4PM hour). That sounds like potential trouble. They placed a call to Tom but he refused to discuss anything.
Not sure if anyone has any idea, or if this was Marty just trying to ruffle some feathers. You could just tell that Trent was grinning the entire time this was going on.
I saw no threads on the subject. Drive time radio in Central Iowa blows.

There's another thread about this. No whispers have come out of the AD yet, so most people doubt it's anything serious. Marty is always dramatic, and Witosky is probably just looking for something silly to derail the bball season.

I was listening from about 4 to 4:30 off and on and there was no mention of it. They spent that time talking about who their final 4 would be (Marty says that Calipari is already getting fitted for the ring) and bashing TNT on 1460. So yeah.....great radio

He first mentioned that Friday night while live at the well for wrestling. As he signed off at 6, he dropped this one out there. On another board, some have said he was digging into McDermott days and some coaches expensing alcohol receipts from Johnny's.

Sounds like groundbreaking journalism by the Rag. Biggest story of the year!

So at best this is a non issue.
At worse it is a case of an ISU employee make unauthorized alcohol purchases using university money.

Either way, this is such a HUGE scandal. I am shaking with anxiety.

I think the best the Liars on Locust could come up with is old dirt. I am sure the sheer amount of talent and transfers can seem sketchy (I raised an eyebrow when I saw all of the initial names a few years back).
That said, no reason to try and dimish what is a truly great story for the state. Marty is off base. When he misses the mark (like saying Doug was currently a better all-around player than HB) he tries to twist words and get the crew steered away from his point. Just for once I'd like someone to call the guy on it (and not back down). Trent is unbearable, as well.
I know, I know... Don't listen.

Marty doesn't bother me at all. I haven't listened since he left KXNO. He's not that hard to ignore.

The tavernhawks cannot stand that ISU is going to be in the NCAA tournament. They must try something (anything!) to diminish what ISU has accomplished this season.

Marty did say something along the lines of "I'm starting to get the feeling that this is probably nothing"

I really wish someone in the media would call out Witoski on his BS

Was Johnnys even open in the McDermott days? I thought that opened last year. Even so, how would this be anymore than an internal AD issue, or at worse a state accounting audit. Nothing about coaches expensing alcohol sounds like an NCAA issue. Perhaps we could even send a bill to McDermott.

I think he was referring to Johnny's in Des Moines. That's been around for quite a while.

Ah, makes more sense. Still, is this really a problem? If this is what Witosky is clinging to these days he's going to find himself a part if the next rag layoffs.

Once you catch Marty, you can never get rid of it. But you can take Valtrex to manage the symptoms.

Why people still listen to this fool is amazing. This is the same idiot that was citing his source as his dentist that ISU was going to hire Jay Norvell as our next football coach once too. He's also been fired for cursing on air and was reprimanded/suspended multiple times while with KXNO for crossing the line and berating people on air. Some of you might remember the length he went to attack someone he went to the Masters with that was completely unprofessional and had no business doing it on air.

And yet somehow he still can drum up listeners and make message boards talk because people actually still think he's a reliable source of info for some reason. Getting info from a horse's rear end might be more reliable than anything Martha throws out there and hopes he's right once in awhile.

Marty's on his last leg in DM radio as far as I'm concerned. I haven't listened to him since he left KXNO. His only chance of survival is trying to dig up and throw dirt. If listeners haven't figured that out by now, they're more than gullible.

I love Marty. He wasn't accusing ISU of anything, just saying Witosky was digging for something. He said the more he hears, the more it sounds like nothing. Marty is the best talent this market has and he gets under Hawkeye fans skin as good as anyone. He is an equal opportunity *******.
