I believe biggest of the tournament. has to be about the biggest upset in the history of our vb program as well.

And they dominated the whole match. That's almost as big as the fact that they even beat them. It shows how well they are playing and could go even further.

Wisc was the 7 seed, Cal is #10. Wisc is hosting the regional - with them out we ought to have some crowd advantage. Having played NU and Texas prepares us to play anyone.

will the location change at all or will it be in Wis. the whole time?

nvm..

i see now that it is in Wisc...

how crazy would it be just to get to the elite 8!?!
and prob would play NEB...wow...insane..

WOW! Some more good news from ISU sports! I am excited. Is there a site where I can find all the seedings and results? It is a bit different than basketball I am assuming.

If you were to compare it to basketball, Wisconsin is the #2 seed in the region. They are the #7 seed for the overall tournament. ISU was one of the last teams in the tourney and we just swept the #2 seed 3-0 on their home court. It's a big deal.

He is right.. we were one of the last teams to make it in.. and here is an article bas. sayin we didnt deserve it and better win to make the ncaa look better..

CSTV.com: #1 in College Sports

look under "I"

well i hope the ncaa is happy!

That guy is a nimrod. ISU was the FIFTH team in the Big 12, not the sixth. Mizzou was the last Big 12 team selected, but their name came up earlier on the show because of the region they were in. When you finish above .500 in a league that has four teams in the top 25, that's pretty much a guaranteed spot.

You can't really equate the seeding processes for anyone lower than the actual top 16 seeds. Volleyball is still very much a regional sport. That's why ISU has gone to Madison twice in a row, and that's why UNI went up there this year.

Technically the basketball tournament is also a regional format they just seed all 64 +1 teams.

The "volleyball" schools like UW and NU get to routinely host regional games because as we all know the NCAA is a financial institution not an academic one. It's based on both quality and potential tickets sold. Think NIT basketball.

As far as being so regional, why is a so-called unseeded San Diego playing in Madison? It's not nearly a science like basketball but IMHO those outside the top 16 are placed in the braket according to estimated seeding.

I will admit technically you are correct about the top 16 seeds but I think there is some thought regarding the rest.

Teams bid to host rounds 1 and 2, just like basketball. The pairings are based on a combination of seeding and which teams bids were the best (i.e. $$$). It's very difficult to find 4 teams all within a small geographic area where none of those teams are in the same conference. Volleyball isn't self-sufficient enough to have all 4 teams coming in from long distances, just because the fan base isn't there.

Most of the time with volleyball, they'll get at least 3 of the 4 teams from a close distance -- in this case Wisconsin, ISU, UNI. The fourth team is usually just out of luck (San Diego). Just from this year's tournament so far:

*Minnesota traveled to Stanford with two other California teams
*Cal Poly (seeded!) traveled to Ohio, along with Purdue and Xavier
*Oregon traveled to KSU with Missouri State and Tulsa
*UCLA (seeded!) traveled to Clemson with Alabama and Alabama A&M

...and that's just from 1 "region".

If the basketball tournament is regional, then why was ISU the westernmost team of the 8 in Boise in 2001? (ISU, Wisconsin, Arkansas, Maryland, Georgia State, George Mason [Va.], Georgetown [D.C.], and the Team That Shall Not be Named [Va.]) Had the seeds held true, your 4 teams in Anaheim would have been Stanford, ISU, Maryland, Indiana.

Arizona was a #2 that was sent to Kansas City.

We are agreeing more than disagreeing. I just think that when they put together regions and regionals they try their best to seed them even though you don't see the numbers because the numbers are not exactly right due to the points you and I mentioned.

Who cares, CJ just put ISU on the map.
