"Lucky Shots" & "Refs" Excuse by K-State

What a bunch of whiners. The loss last night was the fault of "the refs" (their coach) and we made lucky shots (their players).

Gotta say, I love the "lucky" in-your-face dunks Royce threw down. And, considering they were shooting 3-pointers better than they have all season, who was really making the "lucky shots?"

I find their comments disrespectful of our team and lacking in class. I don't recall Fred blaming a loss on the refs of our players calling other team's shots as "lucky."

The picture in the article looks like a jump ball, but no it was a foul on Melvin.

ISU wins very comfortably in a cleanly officiated game. KSU was playing football and the refs were fine with it. About four minutes left to go in the game ISU realized they could play football too.

We should start the bench players and tell them to just play like rabid dogs and not worry about fouls @KSU and see what happens to start the game.

Royce had KSU so outclassed it wasn't even funny. They got 6 points on two plays where they got away with epic travels. Those two plays alone were much bigger breaks than ISU got the entire game.
 
The officials let them play all game. the mcgruber (sp?) probably was fouled on that possesion under a minute, but if they called that foul they probably needed to call about 20 other fouls throughout the game.

Royce was fouled everytime he went to the lane.......Gipson threw an elbow against Gibson late in the game twice that lead to KSU baskets.

ISU won the game, the officials were bad - but they were consistently bad throughout the game.......no one to blame but themselves. They had the 14 point lead in the 2nd half and couldn't hold on.

The highlight of one of Royce's dunks is the definition of a +1 and it'll be shown over and over and over. No foul.

ISU can easily point to 8-20 points they got screwed out of. For KSU to think the refs lost them this game is ridiculous. Travel then hit a 3? Travel again and hit another 3? That's six points the refs gifted KSU right there.

I thought the turning point was when McGee outfought at least 3 K-state players for the ball by diving on the floor. He showed he was tough enough to fight them and I think it rubbed off on the other players as the defense stiffened after that point.

They have a somewhat legitimate (although not really) complaint, in that they play this style game in and game out, and the other team usually gets called for more fouls then they do. So it makes sense to ***** about the refs when they are usually lopsided in favor of KSU and this game they weren't.

Also, I hate their style of play. It makes the game so slow and so frustrating. The officials have to feel the same way, I can just imagine they groan every time they see a KSU game on their schedule.
 
Does anyone recall a certain ******** "interception" that they got in Football this year? After seeing that I was incredibly happy to beat KSU with some controversy. **** EMAW.

I have never watched a game where officials let a play like that go with a no-call. The guy very deliberately and obviously threw his elbow into the defender to gain space to get to the basket. It wasn't like he just stuck out his elbow a little bit... he swung it pretty violently.

I think the K-State players were taken by surprise with ISU's toughness throughout the game. Those ISU kids didn't back down and KSU's thug-ball strategy failed.
 
Perhaps Fred "assaulted" Chris Allen on Saturday to prepare him for last night :jimlad:

In all seriousness, Hoiberg was correct in the post game of the KU game. Nobody is going to come into our place and push us around. Hilton is starting to become a deathtrap for teams again.

I think the unlikely was due to being down by 14 about 5 minutes into the second half. I didn't read the article, but the ISU teams of late (basically under McD) couldn't weather that and come back.
 
There was another play in the 1st half when a KSU player threw Royce to the floor right before a time out and nothing was called. It takes quit a shove to get Royce on the floor, and he definitely wasn't flopping.
 
In pretty much any close game like that, the losing team can usually make the argument that there were 1 or 2 lucky/unlucky plays that determined the game. Also, in hind sight, it's always easy to find a call or two that was blown or controversial.

Such is life, but for everyone that we've won in that fashion over the past 6 years, we've lost 3x as many.
 
KSU fans are really stuck on that free throw differential. I wonder why they don't focus on fouls called...

Probably because there was only a two foul differential in the 2nd half. I wonder how many of them actually believe two fouls is the reason they blew a 14 point lead.

Living in KC, I can tell you that the local media sort of roots for Iowa State, but they clearly think that KU, Mizzou and K-State are always superior. We're kind of the little brother they think is harmless, so they give us a little love occasionally.

Even after beating KU, most local media chalked this one up as a win for K-State.

I guess that's what you expect from the home town media though.

In another year or two, hopefully everyone in the B12 will EXPECT to lose when they come to Hilton just as it was in the Orr/Floyd/LE days.
