A new brewery is opening in Spirit Lake, Okoboji Brewing Company. They are sponsoring the Okoboji Winter Games and all their beers will be introduced there this weekend. Getting great reviews. Can't wait to get a taste.

one of the guys that is running this brewery is a family friend, and i can attest to the quality of the beers, they are delicious. also a U of O alum

Nice to have a fellow alum on here. ISU's campus is beautiful, but nothing beats the U of O's water-front campus ;)

Not only I am a U of O alum, I'm also the current director of the illustrious U of O Flying Club.

Pumped to here about the beer. It's about damn time they got a brewery in the Lakes area. Only problem is that I've heard rumors that the brewery is part of the university, if you get my drift.

EDIT: NM, looks real online.

All of their beers for the time being are being brewed and canned by Great River Brewery in Davenport.

Apparently I was in a fraternity with one of them as well...I knew I was in the fraternity with him, just not that he was doing this. Real cool.

I have to use this thread as a plug for a brewery a family member of mine is opening in Coralville. Its going to be Iowa's largest at 25,000 barrels per year, and they make terrific German style beers.

I encourage (and beg) everyone to check it out! They have it on tap at El Baitshop and Biaggis I believe. Ask for it other places you go!

Two of the co-owners are family friends that we used to attend ISU games with; they're big-time Clone supporters!

I stumbled onto their beer with my father-in-law at their original brew pub, Old Man River up in McGregor.

Love their beer. All German styles, and delicious. Their gonna be bottling this year supposedly, and I will be having plenty of it while tailgating.

Anyone try their beer yet? I tried their Blue before a wedding a few weeks back...it was absolutely horrible. I was extremely disappointed since i know one of the guys in charge of the whole operation. I tried another last night to see if maybe i just had a bad can...nope. Oh well. I'll definitely try their others to support them.

I haven't had them all, but they have one with anise in it that's really good. If you like Jägermeister, you'll probably like this beer.

Definitely support Okoboji Brewing Company if for no other reason than the owners are big ISU fans and supporters.
