ISU girls played hard in the second half, fought for a lot of balls. OU shots fell, and their guards arm bar to death, and ISU guards got called for the fouls. I really thought they got away with a lot of moving screens too.
Our missed inside shots, ugh. The 3 air balls, ugh.
I am hopeful that this loss gets their attention, probably what needed to happen to have them learn to pay attention in practice.
Go cyclones! Baylor next, doesn't get easier.

Okay, I officially more depressed than I was a couple of days ago following all of the Schroll stuff. The way we started I thought we might make a game of this.
Yeah, me too. Did seem like the team was fighting though, and if they don't give up, still can make a season out of it. I think the pieces are there....this loss may have gotten their attention, and maybe practices will be more impactful now.
I alternated in the first half following the live blog and watching on the internet. But I just couldn't do it in the second half. Sometimes you think that if you don't pay attention, they'll play better. That didn't work either. I couldn't believe the final score when it was over. That's one of the biggest margins of defeat over the last decade or so, although I just checked and there have been some doozies over the last five or six years (including that fun 38 point Hawaii tournament loss to Stanford in 2008).
Don't think missing Schroll was much of a factor on the floor, although it may be affecting the team psychologically. They're just going to have to play through it and figure out how to not have ten minute scoring droughts. THAT was the biggest problem in the first half. I believe that if this was an even game at the break, while we may not have won, we would have not been so deflated at the very end.
Kudos to McFarland, however. The previous two years when I have seen her, she looked really bad - sloppy, unfocussed, poor shot selections. But something must have clicked between last season and this one. Clearly she is a much better player, as the McFarland name would indicate (her older sisters also played for Big 12 teams previously and made some pretty serious names for themselves).
Oh, and whenever you see we have officals named "Scott Yarbrough" or "Brian Enterline" (amongst MANY others), you know we're going to come out on the short end of things more often than not. They're two of the worst.

Scholl's toughness is what will be missed.
Outside of POP....the front court is very soft. It will be the Achilles heel of this team this year...and will continue to bite us over and over.
Did anyone catch what Tracy Gahan had to say at halftime of the game yesterday? Reminded me of what some are saying about Coach Fen in the sense that they think he's harsh on them until after they're done playing and they appreciate the toughness he's instilled in them. I didn't catch her whole talk and was wondering if she said anything else.
Also, mentioned what she has done since ISU playing career ended. She mentioned the various countries she was playing ball until her retirement. She is now looking for what she is going to do next. She said she wasn't missing playing ball until she was watching the game last night.
That is what Alison Lacey said too. Paraphrasing, "I would love to come back and hear Coach yell at me one more time, I give up an WNBA Championship for that." But there is a character issue here, that in some situations with some players, it will make or break them. Did we observe this? Though easily there could be more here.

If you take away our blowouts to Stanford and UConn I don't think we've had a bigger loss in the last five years (someone with all the stats will have to help us).
I agree with you I don't think Schroll missing was a problem but the 10-min scoring draughts are. I remember last year when we played Texas A&M and the ever-gracious Gary Blair said in his postgame interviews, "Iowa State plays hard and I always know I'm gonna be in for a fight, but they don't have the firepower that they used to, there aren't as many threats on the floor. And in their offensive scheme they need firepower." (I'm paraphrasing him, but that's the gist)
