Favorite Song Lyrics

A couple from my favorite artist:

Joe Purdy - Glory

"You can have my money
You can take my guitar
Just make sure you that use them and you use them well

Ain’t nothin’ wrong with ramblin’
Aint nothin’ wrong with dyin’
Just make sure when you’re finished you got a story to tell"

Joe Purdy - Ode to Sad Clown

"I got caught in this whistlin' wind
Doing my best to regret these sins
But, Lord, would forgive me
If you know I'm gonna do it again

And it's not that I'm not sorry Lord
Oh, it's just that I'm not strong
Cause when that woman looks at me
I can't remember right from wrong"

Watch out where the huskies go, and don't
you eat that yellow snow

-F. Zappa

I detect the el supremo
From the room at the top of the stairs

-Becker/Fagen

What we have here is failure to communicate. There are some men you just can't reach.... Civil War, Guns and Roses

Stolen from somewhere. Old movie maybe?

The Damnwells - I am a Leaver

Running streets I never found
Singing songs without a sound
Can I shake you from the tree and sow you in the ground
To keep you next to me

If you haven't listened to The Damnwells do it....amazing.

Industrial Disease by Dire Straits kicks some serious a**!!!

"Every silver lining's got a touch of grey. I will get by....I will bet by....I will get by....I will survive" - Jerry Garcia & the Grateful Dead, "Touch Of Grey"

Also:

ANYTHING by the BEATLES, ZEPPELIN or THE DOORS would work........................

A diamond necklace played the pawn
Hand in hand some drummed along, oh
To a handsome man and baton
A blind class aristocracy
Back through the opera glass you see
The pit and the pendulum drawn
Columnated ruins domino

Hung velvet overtaken me
Dim chandelier awaken me
To a song dissolved in the dawn
The music hall a costly bow
The music all is lost for now
To a muted trumpeter swan
Columnated ruins domino

Canvass the town and brush the backdrop
Are you sleeping, Brother John?

Dove nested towers the hour was
Strike the street quicksilver moon
Carriage across the fog
Two-Step to lamp lights cellar tune
The laughs come hard in Auld Lang Syne

The glass was raised, the fired rose
The fullness of the wine, the dim last toasting
While at port adieu or die

A choke of grief heart hardened I
Beyond belief a broken man too tough to cry

Surf's Up
Aboard a tidal wave
Come about hard and join
The young and often spring you gave
I heard the word
Wonderful thing
A children's song

Well I'm tempted to say anything by Jeff Tweedy. I've always been more of a lyrics person than a music person, so I have a ton of favorites, but since DBT and Built to Spill were mentioned here, I'll put in my favorites by them:

Built to Spill - Carry the Zero:
And you're so occupied with what other persons are occupied with
And vice versa
And you've become what you thought was dumb
A fraction of the sum
Drive By Truckers, You and Your Crystal Meth:
You lost your family and wrecked your truck, I used to love you but now you suck
We were friends, among the best; You and your crystal meth

Roy Rogers - Elton John/Bernie Taupin
(Life of the working man, i.e. quiet desperation ring true to me)

Nine o'clock mornings, five o'clock evenings
I'd liven the pace if I could
Oh I'd rather have ham in my sandwich than cheese
But complaining wouldn't do any good

Lay back in my armchair, close eyes and think clear
I can hear hoof beats ahead
Roy and Trigger have just hit the hilltop
While the wife and the kids are in bed

And Roy Rogers is riding tonight
Returning to our silver screens
Comic book characters never grow old
Evergreen heroes whose stories were told
Oh the great sequin cowboy who sings of the plains
Of roundups and rustlers and home on the range
Turn on the T.V., shut out the lights
Roy Rogers is riding tonight

Since you're mentioning Jeff Tweedy, I would go with "I just can't find the time to write my mind the way I want it to read" from Box Full of Letters.

People will argue with me....but AM was their best album.

Syncronicity II- Police

(Another about the desperateness of it all. I particularly like the "humiliating kick in the crotch" line.)

Another suburban family morning
Grandmother screaming at the wall
We have to shout above the din of our Rice Crispies
We can't hear anything at all
Mother chants her litany of boredom and frustration
But we know all her suicides are fake
Daddy only stares into the distance
There's only so.much heartache he can take
Many miles away
Something crawls from the slime
At the bottom of a dark Scottish lake

Another industrial ugly morning
The factory belches filth into the sky
He walks unhindered through the picket lines today
He doesn't think to wonder why
The secretaries pout and preen like
cheap tarts in a red light street
But all he ever thinks to do is watch
And every single meeting with his so-called superior
Is a humiliating kick in the crotch

Many miles away
Something crawls to the surface
Of a dark Scottish loch

Another working day has ended
Only the rush hour hell to face
Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes
Contestants in a suicidal race
Daddy grips the wheel and stares alone into the distance
He knows that something somewhere has to break
He sees the family home now looming in his headlights
The pain upstairs that makes his eyeballs ache
Many miles away
There's a shadow on the door
Of a cottage on the shore
Of a dark Scottish lake

I don't know if its their best, but its right up there. Its definitely better than it gets credit for.

My favorite Wilco album depends on the day, but it seems to rotate between AM and A Ghost is Born. I realize these are their two most "opposite" albums.

People always rave on Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and I just don't get that one at all.

Ol Pirates yes they rob I, sold to the merchant ships. Minutes after they took I, from the bottomless pit.

One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces -Pink Floyd

That would be "Cool Hand Luke" (Strother Martin)

TOOL - Pushit

There's no love in fear.

Pretty much anything from Nine Inch Nails' Fragile album. I was going through some pretty rough times when I found this album and man did it help me channel some of that anger/pain/negativity.

Nine Inch Nails - Somewhat Damaged

broken bruised forgotten sore
too ****ed up to care anymore

Nine Inch Nails - I'm Looking Forward to Joining You, Finally

in the blur of serenity
where did everything get lost?
the flowers of naivete
buried in a layer of frost

Like a lotta Kanye's stuff too. I would say that these three songs though are the ones that first came to the front of my memory when I saw "favorite lyrics".

My current favorite lyric. It'll change next week.

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit - Codeine

If there's one thing I can't take
It's the sound that a woman makes
about 5 seconds after her heart begins to break
well that's one thing I can't take
