Rueben vs. Patty Melt

There is also a strong correlation between fat intake and production of key hormones such as testosterone. To add to that, fat is easier for the body to digest than some other macronutrients, such as protien. Not saying that fat is better for you than protien, obviouly, but the health craze over low-fat is a little ridiculous.

Back on topic, I've actually never had a Rueben, but I loves me a sloppy patty melt.

haha, there are MANY things that contribute to hormones such as testosterone. You need SOME saturated fat for example, but not a ton. Just because you need fat doesn't mean you should load up on it. You should be taking in more unsaturated (poly and mono) anyway, and a LITTLE bit of saturated fat. Unsaturated fats have more to do with testosterone anyway and unsaturated fats are good for you. The "health craze" over low fat is not just low fat, it's over low saturated fats. They will tell you to eat more unsaturated which is completely true.

In any case, Zinc intake is a much bigger contributer to testosterone than most lipids. If you have a testosterone problem, take in more zinc and eat broccoli, not tons of fat.

Rueben > Patty Melt

The Reuben was supposedly invented in Omaha, so you're not far from the birthplace of the Reuben, therefore have a higher chance of scoring an awesome one than if you lived in, say, New York.

I always felt the patty melt was just a burger with crappy bread. Personally I feel an italian beef with peppers is the best sandwich. Rueben, cuban and cheesesteak are all on the heavy rotation.

I agree on all points. I certaintly wasn't saying go crazy and eat as much fat as you want, but when people start trying to avoid fats because they think it alone will make them more healthy, it just blows my mind. As for broccoli, they might as well start marketing that as a superfood, IMO.

Agree hard on the italian beef.

Your post is kind of funny when coupled with your avatar...

LOL

Hey, you and marothISU, you're talking nutrition in a thread about Ruebens and Patty Melts, GTFO, you're ruining our fun.

It's my fault, I started it, don't take it out on poor Maroth. :jimlad:

Really though, this thread is faulty. It fails to take into account options C and D.

C: Italian Beef, as mentioned above
D: Sandwhich I don't know the name for. Hamburger bun, peanut butter, over-easy eggs, hamburger patty, bacon, other condiments as desired.

I realize he left those out because they aren't similiar, but I just can't have a talk about sandwiches without those running through my mind.

Ha yes. Avoid ALL fats is really dumb. Avoiding trans fat..pretty smart. Avoiding saturated fat all together? NOt smart, but ALMOST smart.

And yeah, broccoli is a good super food. It's funny how body builders will eat it because it's a blocker to estrogen basically. That's the thing that always amazes me about people. Something is "wrong" with them so they take a pill. While pills are all good, sometimes the best way to fix something is to change your diet and learn what a bunch of foods, especially fruits and vegetables, can do for your body since it's one big chemical reaction.

Don't you love nutrition and medicine? :D

Italian Beef is awesome, especially with hot peppers. Yum, so bad but so good.

Sandwich D..I don't know whether that would be good o bad but let me say this...an egg on a burger is ******* amazing.

This times a trillion. How this is not commonplace throughout the American restaurant industry is beyond me.

proof that rueben's are nasty. I'd go with a philly cheesesteak.

Rueben is the better sandwich when made correctly.

Hamburger patties should ONLY be served on a bun. Bread slices, even rye bread (my favorite bread) is not right. It always leads to a slimy slithering sandwich which messes up the eater's hands.

If you want the best Rueben you'll need to travel to Moline IL to the Belgian Village bar/restaurant. A local and regional legend. It is literally the size of a smashed basketball. I mean literally in the true sense (literal) sense of the word.

Best. Reuben. Ever.

It's becoming more commonplace here in Chicago. There are a number of half casual restaurants near me downtown which either put it part of the burger outright or offer it for $1 extra.

There's one place near me..Hangover Burger which is a half pound burger with bacon, jalapeno, a sunny side up egg, and pepper jack cheese on a pretzel roll (THIS is another thing that makes burgers amazing. If you have never had a burger on a good pretzel roll, you're severely missing out). Pretty damn good.
