ISU Gets Some AP Votes and Texas #25 in BCS

I find it curious that Auburn who also has 4 loses is #24. They might have beaten 2 ranked opponents but their last 3 losses were not that close either.

Yeah this makes no sense. What if ISU beats oklahoma on sat? There is no reason they shouldnt be ranked after that. They would be 7-4 coming off back to back wins vs top 10 teams and 3 wins overall vs ranked teams. But how can you go from only 3 votes to ranked the next week? The voters probably ****ed ISU. They showed no respect for them after beating the #2 team in the country IMO

The sad thing is that we might be the best team Texas has beaten. BYU, UCLA, Rice, Tech, and Kansas are their other victories.

They are in the top 25 due to the computer rankings, and strength of conference and schedule. Neither are in the 25 if the human polls. But who the Hell is NORIL?

HOW ON EARTH is TEXAS RANKED? I don't get this at all!!!

I've come to the conclusion that it is a lack of viable alternatives. Look at the others receiving votes. Who else would you put there (other than us of course :jimlad:)? There just aren't any other teams that would seem worthy. Tulsa? Northern Illinois? Southern Miss? All of those have 3 losses in lower conferences.

There just seems to be an overall lack of top-end teams this year.

Perception is what gets Texas that ranking. It's happened with Nebraska big time this year as well. When you start in the top 10, it's easier to stay in the top 25 than it is to get into the top 25 when you are in the 50s to 60s.

Also though, it is our own fault as well. Thank God that Missouri game wasn't on TV or it probably would have done as much damage as our win against OSU did good. But I guarantee you, that Missouri game is still on a lot of voters minds.

Here are the teams with less than four losses that don't appear in the BCS standings, and their sagarin ranking. Do any of them really belong?

26 Tulsa
34 West Virginia
36 Southern Miss
39 Cincinnati
41 Rutgers
47 BYU
50 Virginia
57 Arkansas State
62 Northern Illinois
72 Wyoming
74 Ohio
84 Louisiana-Lafayette

Well, I don't think that ISU deserves to be in the top 25 (yet), so I would be fine with them getting zero votes. The only way you get a vote is by someone putting you in their top 25, it's not like someone votes you for the 33rd spot so you get a vote.

I have to agree about Texas. What have they shown to be on that many voter's ballot?

EDIT: I just read the list of unranked teams with less than 4 losses. Maybe ISU does belong!

Also, here is the list of top-50 teams with 4 losses, and their sagarin rank.

16 Texas
29 Iowa State
30 Florida State
31 Utah
35 Auburn
42 Iowa

I'd say Utah and Florida State are as good as Texas. Iowa State if they could beat OU would at least get some votes. The BCS system beyond the top 10-12 spots is pretty worthless, but it galls me that the only reason they're in there is because they're Texas. With their offensive woes, I'm not certain they'll win this week either.

I wish we had a crack at Texas now as opposed to earlier in the year - we'd have a much better shot at beating them now. We're a better team than we were then.

I do agree, but what bothers me about this statement, is it seems to have been taken directly off of a Hawkeye board talking about us. I've heard that after every game we beat them, except in 2001, when they said they would have beat us if we'd played them early in the year.
