does he start at the one? I hope the answer is no, that we find something before then, but no on on the team showed ay kind of ability at the point last night. I hope Long has some, but knowing how the last PG Fred recruited looked(McGee), Long could just be another SG who was told he was going to play the 1.

Why this obsession with the PG position? PG play didn't lose ISU the game last night. It isn't like ISU has trouble getting the ball up the floor either.

If ISU has problems on offense they are spacing, moving without the ball, and chucking 3 pointers after one pass without even looking to feed the post or get something off dribble penetration.

totally agree. the obsession with PG play is really getting crazy. Yeah we don't have a true PG but that is not the reason they lost the game. As you said, bad shot selection, poor spacing, bad defense, Drake played with passion and ISU did not, too many missed shots near the basket.

McGee wasn't a true PG. Long is. Will he start? No, IMO.

Re: So if Nazareth Long if here at semester..

Hopefully Long won't play until next year simply because I would like him for four years, not 3.5

Last night, Drake passed, passed, passed, passed, and passed until they found an open man. Iowa State passed then shot. It had nothing to do with PG play, it was all because we weren't making plays.

Do not kid yourself. The whole offense was a shambles. SC was able to penetrate the lane once. Royce was stuffed in the lane the last five minutes as he was figured out. No one else chose to drive the lane. We were the laneless wonders last night. We just sat outside waiting to pump up threes. This offense looked like the old time McD offense where nothing happened until someone had to jack the ball up over a defender. Last year we rushed down court and drove the lane with ease.

That is why the fans are nervous about what we have seen the last three games. We are reverting to sloooow, no-plan offense just like we watched for so many years.

The defense will be much easier to fix with team desire and inside help than this offense will be to fix.

there is absolutely no reason to think Long will be any more ready than Sledge is.

bubu drove and was called for the charge. ejim drove and didn't finish, he thought he was fouled. mcgee drove and missed a wide open lay up. chris allen drove several times, making a few, getting fouled, and wildly getting caught in the air at least once. royce drove and was called for charges and had a few dunks. babb drove and got fouled.

I think Long will come in and play about 40 minutes a game, average about 10 pts and 12 assists a game so it will be nice when it gets here.

Re: So if Nazareth Long if here at semester..

Step one: Build up team to epic proportions using only your imagination

Step two: Turn into expectations of immediate and huge success

Step three: When step one and two fail, turn your imagination loose on the next player to hit the court

Half a foot taller. If he can handle the ball and play D, he'll see time.

The truth is no one can say with any certainty how good Long is, what our needs will be when he gets here, or how well the team is playing at that time.

If he is good enough to get minutes and the team needs him to be better, I expect he will play. His size and the numbers he is putting up so far this season certainly raise one's hopes. But, he will be a frosh and those numbers are vs. Canadian teams.

Everyone of those problems you just listed can all be attributed to poor PG play. PG's do a whole lot more than just dribble the ball up the court.

they also all can be attributed to not gelling and playing as a team.

Why would u hope the answer is no? I want the best starting players possible. If he is better than what we have hellz yes put him in.

Still have 4 years to find his replacement.

With that said... no chance in hell will he start.

The PG obsession is ridiculuous. I guarantee you if the team was playing better defense there would hardly be a mention of PG. Two games in a row an opponent shot over 50% for a half. That is horrible defense. Even with a good PG there will be nights the team is missing shots and it is up to the defense to step up. I don't care if you brought in the best PG in college basketball, if the team continues to let the opponent shoot 50% or over in a half they will struggle to win games.

Very true. It is scary being bad at times on both ends of the floor vs Grand Valley State, Drake, and Lehigh.
