computer virus help

So my wife's friend was over today looking at her facebook account and we end up with the AV Security 2012 virus on her laptop. I started up the laptop in safe mode and ran malware bytes. Basically got rid of the virus, but now my networking is jacked up. I can't ping localhost ("unable to contact IP driver, error code 2") or anything. Does anyone know how to fix this or am I SOL? Thanks in advance, Fanatics.

This is why I am glad I pay the $40 a year for Symantec. I'm an IT guy so I'm already cautious enough about things not to get a virus but for as much as people want to complain about the cost of anti-virus software I bet you it's worth $40 to you now not to have to spend the time to try and remove a virus or even reinstall Windows to get rid of it.

I used to like AVG, but it has become slow and too many ads. MSE = fast and no ads.
