So it sounds like Missouri is finally going to the SEC...
It also sounds like West Virginia could be in for a long lawsuit with the Big East...

What happens if West Virginia does not get out of the Big East next year? Do we just play with 9 teams next year? Does this void the Big 12 tv deal?

Thoughts?
 
If WV is not in the Big 12 next season, MO will stay for the year. I hope that happens so we can get a lame duck MO at home.
 
If MO gets out, and WVU can't get in would the B12 make a big push for BYU since their tie to the WCC is so insignificant by comparison?

The top expansion candidates are BYU and Big East teams that would face the same as WVU.

Could this possibly push BYU for 10 next year, have us at 11 and also spur the official Louisville invite for 12?
 
WVU will play Big 12 ball next year. They might have to pay a lot in damages, but no judge is going to issue and enforce an injunction against them playing in the Big 12.
 
I was under the assumption from reading some WestV message boards was that WV was under a lawsuit based on them leaving would put the conference under 5 teams essentially breaking it up and losing their AQ status. With Boise St. approving the move to the BigE I think now they can get out just for the fees, because now the conference has enough teams it won't dissolve with WV leaving.

They were saying that 5 was the magic number of teams the BigEast had to reach with them leaving before they would be considered the conference busters. With Pitt and Syracuse leaving it left the BigE with 6 major programs in football remaining. West Virginia got their invite late and so when they wanted to move on, the Big East raised a stink.

Now they are bringing in UCF, Houston, SMU, Boise St, Navy, and USAF. Once the new teams commit the Big East is no longer in jeopardy of losing its AQ status. Thankyou Boise State.

I understood that Pitt and Cuse are in the exact same boat but the ACC isn't in as big of a hurry since they currently have 12 and will have at least 12 until they join whenever.

I think the real lost story in all of this is the ACC invite to UConn/Rutgers that has never come. The Big East has taken a major blow, it's no longer the best hoops conference. Big 12 #1, ACC #2, Big Ten may even be its equal now. As a football conference it's still #6 but has eliminated the MWC as a possible competitor to that position.
 
Big East has been consistant in saying all 3 teams (SU, Pitt, and WVU) need to fulfill the 27-month waiting period.

I know that it has been reported that a conference, if it fell below AQ standards (I can't remember if it is 6 or 8 teams) had a period of time to refortify before losing AQ status. So that can't be the BE beef. The TV deal certainly can be, though.

I do agree that if the BE can get back to at least 8 FB teams for 2012 (outside of SU, Pitt, and WVU), that the ability of those teams to leave immediately could be enhanced; it just could take more money.
