Aramis Ramirez: Ramirez tells Cubs he'll become free agent, decline $16 million option - Chicago Tribune
time to go he'd give you numbers but he's just not the type of vet that you build a winner around.
If they could sign Fielder and a couple pitchers I think this team could become youthfull and contend right away.
From what I've read, I don't know if Epstein's going after either Pujols or Fielder. He's been talking about quality up the middle. We have Castro at SS (don't think he's looking to move him to 2nd either, although Reyes would be an interesting target for me. Think of all those hits at the top with Reyes and Castro). That leaves behind the plate, 2nd (Ian Kinsler anybody??) and CF.
This year's crop of starters in free agency is not good. Next year is much, much deeper.
With ARam gone...for the OP, I'm torn on the news, other than Castro and Soriano's contract, this team is in full rebuild mode.
Needs:
3rd
2nd (I like Barney, but not everyday)
1st (unless they bring Pena back.. Nice glove, and pop. HUGE swing hole)
CF
RF
Manager
Won't talk pitching, because typing all this out on my phone is taking forever
I'd hope they address the manager need as a priority. I'm not sure we have anyone on the roster who fits the player/manager role real well. Big Z maybe? Boot a routine grounder, get your *** kicked.
