Awesome article that says Mizzou is screwed in every aspect of the game when they move to the SEC. They're going to have to improve in...
1. Recruitng
2. Program infrastructure
3. Revenue
4. Winning
All while, losing their Texas recruiting ties, being far away from conference opponents, not really gaining much for TV revenue and costing more to run a program in the SEC, and facing stiffer competition.

I agree with all of it; nobody's going into the SEC thinking that Mizzou will take over. All of that fan enthusiasm is going to need to be turned into dollars to keep improving. It's a risk. But you know what would completely sap all that enthusiasm? Staying in the Big 12. Fans would still support Mizzou, but good luck bringing in new money and new support to play in the same old wobbly league.
Now, if you'll agree not to sue us for any lost TV revenue, we'll settle up the buyout at the front desk and be on our way.

Really? Has the Big 8/Big 12 been that bad to you that last 100 years? You think that playing in the SEC is going to suddenly bring this windfall of donations for the athletic department that Mizzou hasn't got over the years?
You know what brings in money above all else? Wins...You'll have less of them in the SEC. Furthermore, although I know you'll disagree, I think losing geographic relevance for average Joe fan who lives in the KC area is going to come back to bite you.
Not at all. We had 80-90 good years in the Big 8 (I think...or the MVC before that). But the Big 8 died a bit when the TX Four joined up, and kept slipping away as the conference gravitated South. When NU and CU left, it was gone for good. And it would have been the same had ISU, or KU, or any of the old Big 8 departed.
Are Mizzou fans ready to step up? I have no idea. We're about to find out. Much has been made of Missouri's geographic disadvantages in the SEC, but there's a lot to be said for being the only FBS school in a state this size, smack dab in the middle of America.
I don't feel like KC is losing Mizzou; I think KC is gaining the SEC with the Big 12. They can watch their local teams play not only the big boys from OK and TX, but also Bama, LSU, Florida, Auburn and the rest. What other city in America is just a 3-hour drive from the Big 12 (Lawrence, Manhattan), SEC (Columbia), and Big 10 (Lincoln)...the three best college football conferences? You could take a day trip and see most of the best football teams in the country, every single year.
I'm sad to lose the rivalry, but I'm excited for the future. :smile:

Look, dummy, KC is not "gaining the SEC". How many Alabama/Auburn/UGA/SC/Ole Miss alumni have you ever met in KC? Certainly not droves of them that descend upon bars in massive swarms on the weekend. You think people are going to automatically start caring about these faraway teams just because Missery plays them? Can you ever envision the prospect of a Mississippi State bar opening up in Westport? Is the Sprit Center going to be hosting any SEC basketball tournaments? Of all the reasons you think Missery is making a smart move, this has to be the most foolish.
KC is, beyond the shadow of a doubt, a Big 12 town. KU, MU, K-State, ISU, OU, OSU, and Texas alumni probably comprise 75% of the college graduates in the area. For those locals that didn't go to college or went elsewhere for their education, they probably grew up watching those teams, just like their fathers and grandfathers did. The entirety of the conference is within driving distance of KC with the exception of WVU. About the only SEC towns markedly close are Columbia and Fayetteville (and Arkansas won't even be in Missery's division). The overwhelming majority of the SEC is still going to be half a continent away; geographically, culturally, and competitively.
Rather than "KC gaining the SEC", it's more likely that Missery is just going to further alienate themselves and their alumni in the region--you'll be off in the corner asking the barkeep to turn on the Vandy/SC game while the other 75% of the people in the bar will be too busy watching K-State play OSU with their friends to even notice or care (yes, that's a metaphor...but one that I can see actually happening at the Quaff on any given Saturday).

As a former kc resident. Mizzou fans in kc are devastated and feel alienated. One guy told me that conference play will totally lose value. No local competition, loss of tradition, and low chance of competing. And for what... Because the sec wants to have 14?... Not because the sec wants Missouri.
