"Just got off the phone with Destin McCauley, InterMat's No. 2 overall recruit in Class of 2011. He committed tonight to Iowa State."

Sweet, that's a huge get and I'm amazed we had enough scholarship money available to get him. He's a full ride kind of guy. Glad to see he reconsidered while doing the Olympic redshirt.

For sure. That should be a great start for the upcoming season.

WOW!!!! This could be a program changer!!!!!! I did not think he would do this already! Really helps to get Caldwell. 2012- 13 could see us get back to contention!

Not only is this a huge commitment in terms of a quality guy, but it is also showing that a guy who's long term goal is an Olympic Gold in 2016 feels that Iowa State is the best place in the nation to take him there. I'm sure the presence of the Paulsens and Reader played a huge part in his decision, as well as believing in Jackson (who was the national freestyle coach before he came to Ames). So it is a huge get and a huge vote of confidence in the future of the program.

I remember him winning the Minnesota state high school tourney as a 7th grader and thinking it would be great to get him at ISU.

Awesome get by the staff if true.

Hopefully this could get others in that Apple Valley program to look ISU's way in the future.

Enlighten me here guys. I don't follow wrestling close enough but it seems to me we are bringing in some good wrestlers right?

He's a 5 time Minnesota State Champ who is taking a year off in hopes of making the Olympic team in 2012.

Yes. He is very good. Likely 4 time AA and multiple time champion is very possible.

He is definitively the biggest recruit that Jackson has brought in within the last three years.

I meant everyone, not just this guy. Even with my lack of knowledge with wrestling, I could tell you this guy is pretty good.

Recruiting classes have been solid, Jackson's first full recruiting class will be hitting the mats this year as red-shirt freshmen so we'll know a lot more come March. We've had a few great commits like Kyven Gadson but Destin is the first blue-est of blue chips for Jackson.

DMc is the top recruit in the Jackson era but I would consider Meeks a very blue chip.
