I saw a high schooler wearing a bird in a blenderesq hoodie... I didn't get a chance to ask them what school it was but it got me thinking how many are out there? Wisconsin makes such a big deal about the motion W, and K-State charges high schools 1 dollar a year to use their cat... I wonder if we keep tabs on places using our cy logos. Anyone know of any other High Schools that use ISU stuff?

Holy ****, schools are paying $10 a decade for the wildcat! That's unreal. Cedar Rapids Kennedy must have paid nearly 100 since its inception!

K-State may be nice about it but Wisconsin for example is not. If I am not mistaken, Waukee High School was forced to either pony up or change their logo 5 or so years ago. Not sure which they chose.

They changed i believe. It was dumb though. There were clear differences in the way they did their W logos. There were similarities, but how many ways can you really differentiate a freakin' letter? Was easier to just change though than pay to fight it.

Yes, the Wisconsin thing was kind of dumb, I mean I don't think you should be able to say you can't use a single letter. Now, the two logos in the first post are very clearly near identical to Iowa State's so I wonder if they have at least asked for permission and if we've charged anything for their use?

Omaha Westside must not have gotten the message. Unless Wiskey got some payolla for this:

Urbandale used the Kansas Jayhawk logo and had to switch it from walking right to walking to the left. Now they have "adjusted" the Miami Logo

While Urbandale's J-Hawk is inspired by the Kansas Jayhawk logo, if you compare them side by side, they are noticeably different.

I know both of their logos are registered trademarks at the state level and the school contacted both Kansas and Miami when they made the logos.

Check their website j-hawks.com

The middle of waukee's was different too, but they still came after them.

Yep, the Waukee logo had a different point in the middle, it was a different color, and I believe it also had a shadow. Not sure you can change up a letter much more than that.

Shortly after I moved to Kansas, Wisconsin went after Washburn University, a smaller college in Topeka.

.... Wisconsin sucks.

If you understand trademark law you wouldn't be blaming Wisconsin for doing this

technically they arent our logos anymore since we use I STATE now. or does it apply to any logo that we have ever had

If you'd like to see various helmets for high school, college, pro, and anything else go to MG's Helmets and check out Mike's site...pretty cool. You can also see different variations of high schools using other teams' logos with different names. An example would be that ugly stencilled sky rat that the hox use being called blackhawks or eagles and so on.
