MLB: Francona Fired?

I'd give my left arm for my team's manager to have Francona's resume of the last 8 years.

Well the Red Sox have spent somewhere around $360 million the last 2 years and have no playoffs to show for it. It also sounds like Theo Epstein could be gone as well.

If both are fired or leave the Cubs need to make a run at both and pay whatever it takes to get them.

Francona is a great manager but sometimes you have to change for the sake of change because the same tactics don't work forever. If the Yankees can fire Torre, the Red Sox can surely fire Francona.

Also, I expect the Cubs to call about 30 seconds after the news breaks. (along with a half dozen other teams)

Sounds like the reports are saying he asked the Red Sox not to pick up his option. Seems as though Francona thinks it is time for a change! While he was working in the White Sox organization he was Michael Jordan's manager in Birmingham.

To be fair, he's not exactly getting fired. The Red Sox just aren't picking up his club option. It's not like he's in the middle of his contract or anything.

I'd love for the White Sox to pick him up, he spent some time in their organization and it would be great to have him back. I believe he managed the barons when Michael Jordan played for them.

This. I hate to see him go, but hopefully it all works out for the better.

It sounds like there is some real cancer in that clubhouse. They are stuck with the 2 biggest nodes (crawford and lackey) so they need to do something. Some player was upset because he got called out for drinking beer in the clubhouse between starts (must have been a starting pitcher). I think Theo Epstein needs to move one, and I am not happy, but I think Francona is a goner as well.

What really bothers me is what if the Sox make the playoffs and this cancer is never exposed or brought to light. It only gets worse then.

I think Adam Dunn and Alex Rios would like to throw their hats in the mix for this. I sure hope he just feels like a change of sox will do Francona some good.
