Iowa City
First off, I must say that ISU ran the ball very well on Saturday. I thought once you guys got to the outside, the play typically went for 7-10 yards easily. However, when you would run up the middle, the plays were usually 2-4 yards. So, my question here is do you guys just have better blocking on the outside, and great blocking receivers? Or is the push up the middle just not as solid?

IMO, Iowa is a lot stronger in the middle of their line than on the outside. Also, our backs are built to get outside and then make people miss.

On top of that, we do have a freshman center so I'm sure the mix of all those things impact it.

We have excellent blocking on the ends of our O-line (with a preseason AA shoring up the left) and some very good blocking by WRs. Our RBs are also very quick and small which helps on runs on the outside but doesn't allow you to run through the tackles like you generally need to do on the inside.

Thanks guys. Couldn't figure out why this was when watching the game, since I don't know your team all that well.

Do you have a "between the tackles" type back on your team that will play this year?

Woody - however, the plays his number has been called for have taken time to develop - which does not suit his style of running.

Thanks for your help. Sorry for not knowing much, but I planned on following ISU more this year than I did in years past, just to be able to hold conversations with my friends who go there about the team. Good luck at Uconn.

I don't think a whole lot of teams have much success running up the gut against Iowa. That's pretty much their defense's biggest strength.

It was a little surprising to me because the line isn't what it has been in recent years. IMO, our best linemen, Binns, and Daniel both play end. Daniels is okay at DT, but he's undersized. The guy with the best potential, Davis, who is also our biggest lineman has been out due to injury and I don't think he saw much time. Hard to tell when your TV cuts out ever 5 minutes.
