Maybe this is general football, not just college, but have you guys noticed, that since the advent of the new Revolution helmets everyone is wearing (I think that is what they are called) alot of helmets are popping off? Especially off running backs? I know that they are supposed to be the bees knees and all, but what good are they if they come off on contact?

Is it because of unsnapped chinstraps? As I watch college and pro ball, I can't help but think it is just a matter of time before someone gets killed because of a lost helmet and then a big collision.

Have any of you guys put one of these on, or seen one up close? Any insight?

in high school i played with both. junior i wore the old helmet and senior year wore the new revolution helmet. there is not much difference as in to how "tight" they are and certainly not enough to increase the chances of it coming off. I thought hte revolution helmet actually fit better and tighter. If anything i guess it be the weight. the Revoluntions are super light compared to the old helmets which i guess in turn can in turn lead to getting knocked off. But im assuming its a combination of not strapping up properly, not enough air in the helmets (you gotta check it during games, especially if you are a RB), and the weight issue.

Also we have not had many concussions lately....so seems like they are working. I haven't noticed more off, but then my memory fades.

I've noticed that trend. I've also noticed that it really only happens when a player has an excessive amount of dreds on his dome. correlation? who knows, that's just what I've observed.

I think it's all the players with long hair and dreadlocks. Hard to put on a helmet on top of all that hair.

yeah, the last concussion i can remember is when tate nearly decapitated himself trying to tackle against us last year.

I remember hearing that the 'poping off' is a function of its design, to prevent concussions and other injuries (neck??) under certain kinds of blows.

I recall this comment made during a pro game some years ago by the announcers or sideline report or something like that. The way they explained it it made sense, kinda like the way cockpit winshields breakaway if a pilot has to eject (instead of just smashing thru them)

because getting popped in the head with the helmet off is so much safer than with the helmet on. i sunno, i'm no scientist.

For Tennessee, that Haynsworth kick to the helmetless Jet player was Revolution helmet problem since it was long gone after the play. The Jet player needed a second helmet after the first one popped off. Haynsworth was told - see you in court.

I was watching Monday night Football, and saw Donovan McNabb only strapping 2 of the 4 starps. I think a lot of players aren't strapping all the way in.

I think Stevie's lid pops off at least once a game...

I also think that the physicalness of the game has greatly intensified...especially in the NFL. God those guys hit hard. I would be a vegetable for life if I got one hit from an NLF LB or Safety...
