If that's true, then the theory that UT wouldn't allow UH into the conference would seem to be not factual, unless the A&M official is just making that part up in order to stir the pot.

Not exactly sure on the theory you are talking about as I've been working all morning and won't be reading through all 500 posts of this thread.

But I wouldn't think any Big 12 member would be in favor of adding Houston. Why would you? That can't just be a Texas thing.

The bottom line to this is that if Beebe is saying these things and telling A&M "Go ahead and leave we will be fine without you" then you can bet your sweet *** that he has Texas & OU onboard to stay put in the Big XII. No way is the conference commissioner going to tell them to not let the door hit them in the *** on the way out if he doesn't have the situation under control behind closed doors. I know Beebe comes off as a complete fool sometimes but there is no way he is going to help push a move forward if it will result in the implosion of the conference he is in charge of running. Quite frankly if this information is accurate it gives me confidence that things are well under control and A&M will be the only defection.

You can tell A&M is acting irrational becaue the whole reason they started complaining is the LHN and highschool games and now the ncaa has told the LHN no to HS games and A&M is still thinking of leaving to a place they would be even lower on the pecking order.

The aggies didnt just start because of the LHN. More that it was the straw that broke the camel's back. The aggies have been in talks with the SEC since spring 2010, they didnt want to jump last summer because they wanted more time to study the issue and any potential implications. The longhorn network just helped push things along and get more people on board with the move.

They desperately want to get away from Texas and apparently that includes committing program suicide by going to the SEC. They could have jumped last year but some of the people at the top had cold feet and probably didn't feel like they had enough ammo against Texas to fight the pending battle against the Texas legislature. Now with the LHN they obviously feel like they have the ammo they need to win that battle and do what they wanted to do all along which is to pull a Nebraska and tuck their tail firmly between their legs and run away. It's almost sad to see a program with their history and tradition act like such a bunch of *******. Have a little pride for Christ's sake and stand up to Texas. Beat them. Compete. Yeah, but there is not straw so the camel's back got broke by a possible straw which is my point on how they are acting irrationally.

Oh yes, the strategy of we could move to the SEC now but we want to wait a year and get a new TV contract agree to the new BIG12 where Texas gets the LHN and then just when football is about to start and they we will go because that makes so much sense.

Thats not how its gone down, according to the publisher of aggieyell, who i believe has good sources. TAMU has had this in process since before the whole realignment thing blew up last summer. They thought last summer was too soon for a move without considering any adverse effects (enrollment, etc), so when they had the option to stay at the status quo for then, they did - if texas had gone PAC, i bet TAMU wouldve made the SEC jump early - , and now, after taking the full time to consider the move, theyre ready to pull the trigger. LHN has just helped get more votes behind the decision from those that were on the fence.

I'm not quite sure I'd call it program suicide. It may be a tougher road to a BCS game, but in the end, they'll be in the SEC raking in SEC money

This post has to be the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. Do you really think that 3 programs left because they couldnt beat a certain team? I believe the programs left the conference because of Texas but it wasnt due to product on the field. Texas drove the SWC into the ground and are about to do the same thing to the B12 all in under 20 years. Texas ever increasing need for power is what is destroying this conference. Teams leaving for better conferences with more stability and better money is not tucking your tail, its called good business sense. What we and the forgotten 5 are doing is called tucking your tail and/or committing program suicide. We fear ******* off UT will ultimately cause them to leave thus relegating us to some no name conference, so we just let them do whatever they want. I can almost garauntee the b12 will last just long enough for the Whorns to get there LHN up and running and then they are going to bail. Then we will be left holding the bag and for what? On the academic side, A&M is not rolling in money. They had to implement somewhere between a 7-10% budget cut, and more cuts might be on the way if the Texas state budget situation does not improve. This is not a great time to be antagonizing the state legislature.

Not to mention having to pay multi-million dollar penalty, the admins at ATM see this as a big hurdle.

ATM's best shot at saving the situation is saying, "the LHN is not broadcasting games, so we are staying and committed to the BIG 12 as always. While some of our alumni supports a move to the SEC and have been vocal about it, our place is with the BIG 12 and always will be."

That state legislature hearing on 8/16 is going to be very interesting on several fronts. One of course being the case A&M makes.

However, another thing that might be more interesting would be what UT, TTU, and Baylor have to say if they are asked to testify, and in particular who might be OK with the A&M move to the SEC, and who wouldn't be so happy with it.

I think Paul Clark's summary of the situation is a good overview with the conclusion that when the Big 12 finally dies ISU is most likely to end up in one of the "new" BCS conferences. And a 9 member with or without extra members will survive for "a while".

He misses some key stuff, namely the idea that the Big East won't have room for ISU.

1) The SEC is going to add another team. Probably out of the ACC who will in turn take a Big East team. This would leave 8 schools in the Big East, and a slot for ISU.

2) The Big East can always go to 14.

The Big East will eventually need to address all the basketball schools that are not football schools in the conference and I could see the Big East splitting along those lines where the non FB teams get pushed out and they take on more football schools.

Texas is willing to make concessions to perceived equals.. thats the bar bones of it. OU is Texas only perceived equal in this league.

Yeah, i just don't see it, so they are going to compromisse with the Pac 10 now to get into a 16 team conference that is much stronger and they wouldnt before? Not sure about that.
