The grounds crew has taken the patheticness of the maintenance of Soldier Field to new heights. Nice to see they're in midseason form.

Robbie Gould tweeted: "Field conditions this bad this early in the season is is inexcusable. This is becoming a reoccurring problem and needs addressed."

Zach Zaidman (Bears radio sideline reporter) posted pictures on Twitter.

I would guess the very hot weather has something to do with the condition of the playing field. You can water the heck out of things, but grass doesn't like the heat. If they put in new sod earlier this year the prolonged heat would make things that much worse.

That's too bad. The JTS field crew does an excellent job on the other hand.

Sounds like the Bears could use a little help from Iowa State. I'm always amazed how good our field looks.

How that grounds crew is still employed is beyond me. The Soldier Field playing surface is a joke, and has been for some time. There is no excuse for those conditions before the season has even started.

There is no excuse for a professional stadium to ever look that bad. If it looks that crappy now, it's going to be even more god awful than normal in November/December/January.

You'd think with them shutting the field down for renovations for a full year a few years back they would have figured everything out then and hired a team that can take care of the field. My high school football team's groundkeeper could do a better job.

The grounds crew is just a symptom, not the problem.....there are much bigger problems with that organization higher up. Look around the NFL...the organizations that are good long term, and that free agents want to go to (besides the $$), are all solid at the top, and this kind of nonsense never happens.

That's ridiculous. Completely inept IMO.

I just toured Lambeau Field in GB a couple weeks ago and it was basically perfect. I thought they must have put in the fake stuff, until we went down on the field. It was unreal. Of course we couldn't walk on it, only on the concrete sidelines.

GB's two outside practice fields were the same way. Nearly perfect. You would have thought it was the Masters.

ISU's field is pretty close to perfect too. There's no excuse for that mess in Soldier Field. That thing will be so tore up after a game or two it won't even be funny.

Green Bay doesn't suck, Iowa State doesn't suck. The Bears do suck. There's you're problem.
