I've never played as much golf during a summer as I have this summer. With that, I started hitting the ball really well. All of a sudden I can't get the ball off the ground and I dribble it anywhere from left to right. The last four times I have gone golfing have been absolutely brutal and I've broke many a club. Any good golfers out there with suggestions? I know I need to get to the range to get it figured out but its almost just as frustrating.

Take a week off and don't even touch a club. Golf is such a big mental game and I usually have to clear my head. Once I do that though, I usually go back to hitting it like I was or at least much better than before.

Tie your left shoe in a double knot, move all the change in your right pocket to your left pocket, turn your hat around backwards, and put a tee behind your left ear.

Make something you wear or use your "lucky" object... Then tell yourself when you're using it that because you're using it, you're going to play well.

I tried the "get loaded the night before" method one round. That seemed to work pretty well.

I will try and take some time off but unfortunately I have a tournament coming up Sunday (with a very good partner) so hopefully that helps.

What I posted was what Cheech Marin's character (Romeo) told Roy "Tin Cup" McAvoy to do when he had the shanks, in the movie 'Tin Cup'. Pretty much it came down to over thinking the shot. Just don't worry about it and swing naturally, and you'll be fine.

Yep, I knew where you were going with that. Before that he also tried getting him drunk.

Thanks for the help guys....what a frustrating sport

Another suggestion, take someone golfing who has only played a couple times, if at all. Playing with the likes of them should help you get your swagger on.

When I'm not getting it off the ground, it's because I'm trying to "pick up" on the ball rather than let the club do it's work. Since I do not have this problem with lofted clubs, I try to imagine that I am hitting a lofted club when I have a 3-5 iron in my hand, and hit accordingly. Maybe that is just me though.

This is a fantastic short lesson that should help.

Obviously the team part doesn't apply, but I think Mark Grace's slumpbusting advice would work for golf too:

"A slumpbuster is when you have to take one for the team. It's finding the biggest, nastiest, fattest broad, and you put the wood to her to come out of your slump. Also known as 'jumping on a grenade for the team'."

I understand the reasoning but this one can backfire big-time.
