To begin the business of Day One of the NFL's 2011 season, the Broncos will place quarterback Kyle Orton on the trading block.
Welcome, coach John Fox, to the never-dull, always-changing world of Broncos football.
With the NFL trading period opening at 8 a.m. today, Orton's days as the Broncos' starting QB may be down to hours. The Broncos will be entertaining offers for Orton, according to two NFL sources.
Orton has made it clear that after posting the two best seasons of his pro career, throwing 41 touchdown passes against 21 interceptions for the Broncos, he doesn't want to serve as backup to the unproven Tim Tebow.
Teams that don't have a proven starting quarterback and therefore need one include Minnesota, Tennessee and Arizona. Seattle, Washington, Cincinnati and Miami also could be possibilities.

To Arizona for Rogers-Cromartie. That is probably best case scenario, but I don't see Arizona wanting to get rid of him

I think Denver is stupid for doing this. They are putting all their eggs in the Tebow basket. As a Chiefs fan though, I am happy they are getting rid of a proven QB who threw for nearly 4,000 yards two years in a row.

Arizona would be great place for him.

As a life-long Broncos fan, I like this move. It's not that I don't like Orton (b/c I do think he's the Broncos best option at QB right now), but everyone knows the Broncos aren't going to light the world on fire this year anyway and the Tebow experiment needs to happen sooner rather than later. Tebow was a 1st round pick that the Broncos need to throw into the fire. The earlier he's tested, the sooner we'll know if he's really the guy to build around or if he's not the guy and the Broncos need to go in a different direction. Personally, I think Tebow could be the guy - now it's time to find out.

Also, b/c it's Fox's 1st year as HC, he gets a free pass this year and can cast blame on the QB situation if it doesn't pan out b/c Tebow wasn't his guy.

I'm glad the Broncos are dumping Orton. The defense really needs re shaped if they can't get Rogers-Cromartie I'm hopin for a secon round pick.

It will be up to Tebow to win enough games so the broncos can't trade up to get Andrew Luck next year.

Yes 4,000 yards courtesy Joshy Mcd the Broncos couldn't and wouldn't run the ball. I think orton has won 8 games in his 2 seasons as the starting qb.

AZ is going to give up Rodgers-Cromartie and a pick for Kolb.

Orton>Tebow as football player

Tebow>Orton at selling tickets and merchandising.

Orton to Minnesota/Miami/Seattle for 3rd round pick.

totally agree. Hopefully Denver will tank this season under Timmy T and we can land Luck next year.

Orton shouldnt be viewed as a leapfrog QB and the Vikes will be looking to Ponder in a few years. Ortons stat show he can be a rather decent franchise QB.

If he truly is a "rather decent franchise QB" then of course the Vikings would give up a 3rd round pick for him, Ponder or not.

Not saying the Vikes wouldn't do it, but it would be too bad for Orton. He needs to go somewhere where he does not have a "QB in waiting" breathing down his neck. Miami would be a great place for him.

As a Dolphins fan, I'd be happy to see them give up a 3rd-round pick for him. I can't stand the thought of another season with Henne as the starter.

Did the broncos secretly hire matt millen? Every move they've made starting with firing shanahan, has been a joke. Carolina and denver won't win more than a few games this year.

Agree, I can't stand Tebow!

Still waiting to hear what Tebow has done to deserve such public venom, other than work his arse off, be an excellent leader and example, and win games (at the collegiate level, anyway).

How's ESPN busting a nut over him every time they see him his fault? Hate ESPN for that.

How's the Broncos drafting him at least 2 rounds too early his fault? Hate the Broncos' management for that.

People must really have jealousy issues, because most of the reasons for hating him are ridiculous. You would think he was on the level of Moss or TO or some other spoiled brat, but all the guy has ever done is work hard and succeed, and people just can't stand the fact he is given attention, perhaps more than he deserves, as a result.
