Mizzou just landed Maty Mauk from Ohio today. He will be a monster QB for them. Couple that with keeping their top in state prospect (Boehm) and with guys like Ifedi, and Jonathan Williams on board, Mizzou is beating a bunch of blue bloods for these top level guys. I have never seen them recruit this well. I don't like this when it comes to us moving up the ranks of the Big 12 in the future.

You can put all the talent in the world on the field, but if you cant coach and inspire it, its meaningless. I wouldnt worry about it until they prove it.

Meh, we need to worry about winning battles with Baylor, TT, KU, and KSU right now. Mizzou has had a lot of success and the recruiting is just catching up.

Here's his Rivals profile pic.

Um I think that Gary Pinkel and his staff have done pretty well so far coaching up players.

exactly. I don't understand when people say Mizzou isn't good. They had two more first round pics this year and will have a shot at being one of top 3 or 4 teams in the league ever year. I'm actually surprised Pinkel is still at Mizzou.

Winning 10+ games in 3 of the last 4 years is bad how?

Where did I say they were bad? Im just saying it doesnt matter unless its wooping your ***. Im not worried about them becoming a national power quite yet.

Pinkle would've been **** canned if not for Chase Daniels, interesting how one player(qb) can change the program. we really need one of our young guns to do the same. Our all around talent if getting better imo, but one great qb takes you there twice as fast.

Imo, Mizzou has been a sleeping giant that is in the process of waking up. They are the second most populous Big 12 state with no other college teams. The talent from St. Louis and KC provides a solid pool to pick from. It would appear that they are making progress towards building a fence around their border with regards to recruiting.

Although it definitely will be tougher to face Mizzou, I like that a North school is becoming stronger. I would love to see "the forgotten 4"...Baylor doesn't count, hold their weight and become more competitive with OU/UT.

It's been too long since we knocked off Mizzou though. I'd love to see it in 2011!

I don't see what is so much greater about their commit list right now. A couple 4 stars, mostly 3 stars. That is the level of recruiting we will need to be at (and so far, it looks like we are headed that way) to compete. The QB doesn't look like he's any more special than the 2 we have either.

Kid's stats are crazy! 69 TD passes his Jr season - is that a typo?
Seriously, though, I think we should focus more of our recruiting on Mizzou & Minnesota. Both have more people with only 1 large State university and are contiguous to us.

Mizzou is picking up more higher-rated, out of state recruits, so we could potentially pick up more players from Missouri as they bypass their in-state kids - as Iowa passes on in-state kids who they hope greyshirt/walk-on yet have D-1 talent.

Still, I am very pleased with our current commits and the staff's recruiting so far. It appears to be ramping up, but it will be a steady process. Nose to the grindstone, methodical yet passionate. Emulates from our leader - CPR

But back to the OP - could not agree more. Mizzou's current commits are pretty numerous to date and appear pretty salty

Mizzou is strong and getting stronger. But that's life in the Big XII. Hopefully for them Pinkel sticks around.

The difference is stats, recruiting hype, and offers. That is the important thing here. We have not had to beat a bunch of schools for our guys yet. they had almost no other current BCS offers. Mizzou is going into Big 10 country and beating out Michigan and the likes to get these prospects. That should be looked on as an impressive feat.

You do realize one of our QB commits is an Elite 11 finalist, right? Maty Mauk isn't. He's just in the heart of overhyped big 10 territory. Michigan and ND haven't exactly lit it up in recent years, either.

I would love nothing more than to see Pinkel get hired by OSU. OSU will be good no matter what, and Iowa has had some success in the past recruiting big name players in Mizzou - that success is hampered by Mizzou being a strong program.

Mizzou is a program that I would love to see fall.

I heard Gabe DeArmond (MU's Rivals guy) on the radio this morning. There is some disappointment in his signing since it signals the kid from Indiana (#1 QB recruit) will play for the Hoosiers. He was down to OU, Alabama, IU and MU. He also said that Mauk is short in QB terms and that kept away some schools.

Pinkel is getting better every year and they are putting guys into the NFL 1st round now

OK.....so the way you set this up I expected this kid to be at least a 4*, maybe a 5*. Rivals pegs him as a 3* and he has only 5 offers from BCS schools other than Mizzou (and of those, two are from Vanderbilt & Cincinnati).

Not saying that the kid couldn't work out for Mizzou....but he is far from a "monster" QB recruit. High school stats don't mean as much to me as offers. This kids offers aren't THAT impressive.

EDIT: Note I am not saying this kid will be a failure or anything - he could be an All Big 12 QB eventually, but its not the kind of commitment that would make me think "Wow...Mizzou is really recruiting against the big boys".
