Recruiting Notebook: Hoops heats up

I want Burton and Haney as 1-2 for 2013. That would be awesome.

I still hope we get Abrahamson for 2012. How do you think we stand on him??

don't get me wrong, I have no problems with our recruiting, but if I'm not mistaken, none of those 2012 and 2013 targets are post players, right?

I wondered about this as well. It seems as though we are recruiting all wing players other than Gibson. Obviously, the staff knows far more than I do, but I was wondering why we don't seem to be going after (m)any post players.

I don't think were going to be recruiting very many true "post" players with the style Fred wants to run.

Niang - He may only be 6'7" but he has proven that he can go up against some of the top post players in the AAU scene.

I think this is spot on, I think we're looking for athletes to play the post positions. Guys who can get up and down the floor, this type of system is guard oriented when it comes to scoring. We will definitely have to find guys to play those positions eventually but its obvious Fred is making the backcourt a priority.

Chris, I am under the impression that ISU is still pursuing and has a legit shot with combo guard Ray Lee for 2012 in addition to Abrahamson and Dorsey-Walker. Are you hearing different?

You also reported a 2012 offer by ISU to Marcus Bell from MCC. Is Bell a back-up plan if White or another post player leaves the program next spring?

Also, are you hearing anything for 2013 on Akoy Agau and do you think there is interest on ISU's part for Peter Jok if he successfully recovers from his upcoming knee surgery (assuming the surgery reports are accurate)?

I think this is interesting and a great trend for ISU basketball. Versatile players and a great backcourt, that is what wins in college basketball today. Just my observations as a fan.

Niang is a 4. Gibson is going to be a 4 year player. Railey and White still have 3 years of eligibility. Also, there is a reported offer for the juco kid at MCC, Bell.

There is a difference between getting traditional post players and not getting any post players. We still need big guys, we can't have a team where our biggest guy is 6'7 wing player. That being said it is very early in the process and I am sure that they have big guys they are looking at.

Have you seen Villanova? That's the type of lineup I expect Fred to throw out there every night. 4 guards/wings and 1 big guy.

If i am not mistaken.. didn't UK play some small ball? Maybe Fred wants to play like UK did when they went to the final 4. Last year it sure seemed like UK slowed it was down as compared to 2 years ago
Cousins was only 6'9
