The tailgate tour stopped by Conagra today before going to the zoo, so I got a chance to talk to Pollard about the FB facility. The biggest nugget was about the tunnel - it will not go through the hill directly into the stadium. Apparently there are too many utility services in the way to route through there. It will somehow connect to the ramp on the west side of the Jake, and the players will walk down from there. The visitors will enter from the east side of the Jake and the teams will have to cross paths to their respective sidelines.

Also said that the wrestling program will take up most of the space vacated by the FB team. He also joked that the supports and installation costs of the new video board are almost as much as the cost of the board itself, hence the revised cost from the original figures.

I am very excited to see how the tunnel is going to look. It's too bad that it couldn't go right through the hillside and come out next to the field. Oh well.

Im glad they arent spending money on getting a tunnel through the hillside. My guess is from in the stadium it will look the exact same watching the players come down on the field.

They will still walk down the concrete ramp right?

I think you are right. No one will be able to see the tunnel from the stands.

Why not just have us on the west side of field? Better shelter from the elements.

Because ~45% on here would think that idea is stupid ........ you F'en nimrod ................... (I left you a FB message :-)

Ok if the tunnel just leads to the top of the ramp and then we watch them come down the ramp, what exactly is the point of the tunnel? To keep the players from walking outside?

I would think the need for the tunnel is simply to provide the players a gated path to the field from the locker room. I understand there are other, cheaper ways of providing this, but that's my guess.

So we're essentially going back to the old entrance, but the teams are switching sides?

It was kind of bare bones, but at the same time it was pretty damn original. I'm not opposed to the idea.

who is the goofball who wanted to build a tornado-like shelter hatch for the players to come out near the north endzone?

Well, there's likely to be a bunch of people sitting at that gate getting their tickets scanned. Probably wouldn't be the best idea to have the players have to walk through the crowd.

So I'm guessing that the "Honor Before Victory" pillar is going to be move to the NW corner? I'm starting to like our entrance more and more....an actual tunnel walk plus the McCarney-style walk down the ramp? Sounds good to me.

The FB only facility will be west of the Bergstrom

Not according to the documents going to the regents.
