FB Facility Update

Actually. Several years ago already I saw a plan for this building. Not saying that the plans haven't change, for which I have no idea, but was actually positioned more like this. I would imagine that they would keep it similar because the other (yellow) way has the entrance blocked to the parking lot and it will be hard to put another entrance in because of the location.

You should know that makes WAY too much sense for Iowa State to ever consider.

I was thinking the same thing, plus when that scoreboard destroying wind blows through, we will get a nice funnel effect that could very well tip some port-a-pots in the tailgate lot.

Wait, OMG!! Did they do an analysis of all potential wind gusts blowing into the tunnel prior to the South Endzone project, and the possibility of it causing the new football building to blow up? Someone should probably let JP know the tunnel must have a 90 degree turn to prevent that from happening.

Dangit CycloneChris, you're about to expose the secret! Funnel effect of winds is intended to create actual cyclones! They're still trying to figure out how to turn them on and off, like the old Metrodome air handlers. The need for actual cyclones is important, they can't be illegal, since we is the cyclones.

That is how I was picturing this facility. Can someone explain though how they tunnel through the hill and what affect that would actually have on the hillside (I'd prefer they just close off the hills and force people into the stands, but that's just me).

That would be perfect.

Keep in mind that I saw these some 3 to 4 years ago. But from what I've seen the ultimate goal is to build a new AD building with all the weight lifting equipment and so on across 4th st. from Bergstrom and then connecting that to the football facilities with a tunnel as well. With that built they have plans to take out Olsen Building and turn that into a plaza and use the Jake as a club/ museum type building as well as a few offices still.

As for the tunnel into the stadium, I honestly don't remember too much about that. I remember wondering what they were going to do about the sidewalk around the stadium because both the tunnel and the building were kinda in the way.

I honestly don't know about the locker room set up either. I never saw floor plans, just scratches. Could they put the opposing team locker room in the south end zone? That would be awesome making the opposing team run out from under the students lol.

So the TV cameras can show the visiting team the whole game? That ain't happening. I think that they just time it and cross. Shouldn't be difficult to do. I've seen NFL games where the players actually walk up the tunnel together at half. Our teams would just share an entrance with the opponent.

Typically they have cameras in both end-zones, 1 rolling behind the visitors bench(Could be moved to the other side) and one on top of the current scoreboard. I don't recall a fleet of cameras on the West Side of the stadium that need to be repositioned.

My personal opinion, and I bet my front teeth that they end up doing this, is that they will actually put that other AD building on the other side of the Jake from the football facility (in lot 85E). This would make that area into more of a complex of buildings which would look better than having a isolated building across the street.

I think that it is going to be similar to that. I probably wouldn't cover up that sidewalk since it does go all the way around the stadium.

I also see that they are starting design on a $100k Football Storage Building. I'm betting that is a Morton building that will go in west of the IPF...to store sleds, dummies, scissor lifts, etc. That's the perfect place for a morton building because no one will ever see it.

i would think something like this would work best aesthetically with the stadium, but it's just my opinion. connect the red wings to the jake, and move everything into these. make them 2 story buildings with locker rooms on the 1st floor and offices on the 2nd?

My guess is that they would just trench it out, build a block tunnel with a concrete floor and cover it back up. The new tunnel between Hach and Gilman is like that. Not much to it other than cement and florescent lights every few yards. I'm sure that they could dress it up some inside. But for the hillside, if they do it in the springtime, I'm betting a lot of people won't even notice it's there. The only thing that will have changed is that they probably have to move the fence back a little so there's room for the opening.

True, but they want it attached to Bergstrom. Lets face it, they use Bergstrom a lot more than they use Jack Trice.

I dont think they will take away possible hillside seating or the option of adding real seats in the future.

CYVADER, I like how your rendering is realistic, with the new scoreboard laying on top of the Jake. The wind problems with the design are well documented on this board, so showing it where it's going to end up is nice for everyone to visualize.
