Was looking at some track times and noticed that future cyclone Devin Lemke has the 4th best 200 time in the state (all classes). This kid could be a beast at DE in a few years.

Not to mention, he was a placewinner (3rd?) at the state wrestling tourney. I really hope that he ends up at DE, because he could be a good one. 6'4, physical and fast. He did double sign with a JUCO, so let's hope he has got his grades in order this semester.

I'm thinking that he ends up at DE and JaQuarius Daniels is a TE down the line. "Big" athletes is something that ISU has been lacking forever.

I'm sure he has good speed but I doubt that he's a legit 21.9 200m. I'm sure that time was hand held by an english teacher at a meet who didn't really care to be there. If he runs anywhere close to that at the state meet then I'll be impressed.

He's had other times close to that and I'm sure not all of them were timed by the same bored English teacher. Many, many high schools have electronic timing for events these days. He's a very good 200 meter man.

I saw him at the meet in Nevada a week ago and he ran the open 400 in 50.5... it was accurate and he was fast. He also anchored his team in the 110 shuttle hurdle relay. He started back about 1 1/2 hurdles and he caught the guy to end up winning it for IF-A, it was very impressive.

I'm not sure what his other times were and how fast he actually is, but seeing how this 21.92 time was recorded at a Clarion track meet, I think its safe to say that this is a hand time and not FAT. That time converted to FAT would be ~22.16, still is fairly good especially for how early it is in the track season.

Bipolarcy: I haven't been in high school since 2004, so I'm a bit behind, but do a lot of high schools now-a-days have fully automatic timing systems? If so, thats pretty good and wish we had the same. Thinking back to when I ran I'm pretty sure the only meets that had FAT were Drake Relays, State Meet, Districts @ Ankeny, and I believe that was it. (Newton may have had it as well)

That's pretty good, too! I see he's ranked #10 in the state for the 400m. (with that same time)

After perusing the interwebs for a little bit, it turns out he actually got 3rd place at state LAST year in the 200m

Very, very few places have FAT. I think Drake and State were the only times in four years I had FAT used.

Well, aside from the fact that he wants to be an NFL tight end.

And that (apparently, having also signed a LOI with a JC), the possibility that he may not qualify.

Other than that, he's one of the sleepers of the class. But then, in my eyes, there are quite a few of them.

I was there. I'm a head track coach. It was legit. There was also a slight head wind. Very impressive.

C'mon man- you only coach hurdlers and middle distance runners at your school. How can you be impressed:jiggy:

If it is legit then color me impressed! This is the type of speed that CPR needs on the field to compete in the Big XII. Fingers crossed that he can qualify and not have to go the JUCO route. A TE/DE that runs sub 22 in the 200m very impressive!

Maybe if they show him the difference in paycheck from a star TE and a star DE in the NFL, he'll change his mind.

Comparing Devin's times with a couple of his future team mates.... Teddy Lampkin's best time so far this spring in the 200m is 22.23, and Kenneth Lynn's best time so far this spring in the 400m is 49.30.

FWIW, Quenton Bundrage has done 6'6" in the high jump.

Track is a great sport. For football players too. I know the exact results don't translate directly to a football game, ie: you never run 100/200m in a football play, but the attributes carry over very well.

No other sport showcases explosiveness + acceleration + Top speed + endurance ... add in maximal strength and flexibility and conditioning. Nothing equals the 100m dash. Those guys are the best pure athletes in the world.

As for Devin, shows me he's in great shape. Has excellent speed for a big man, and is athletic. Great to see. Not to mention he was a very successful wrestler. Glad he's on our team.

Great track times can lead to great college football players. But, typically not great NFL players. Obviously not always the case, but its easier to get away with raw ability in college.

Really excited about Brundage and his high jump ability helps vindicate what a great athlete he is. He already looks like a college receiver in his highlight tape.

How do you know that some of the great NFL players didn't run great track times or have great track distances in throwing events in high school? It's not that uncommon. One of the most frequent second sports of football players is track. Or it used to be until spring football started clashing with track season.

One of our best DEs of all time, Berryman, was a 200-meter track runner and even won a few races in high school.
