This is a shocker, Painter left SIU when they were in the middle of a good run to sit and wait a year under Keady for this job. Mizzou is at best a lateral move from a prestige point of view.

Keep in mind that Painter was in Florida. If he truly wanted to fly back and let the Purdue players and administration know personally, three hours I don't think is an unreasonable amount of time for all that to occur.I think a bigger issue than his own salary are the salaries of his assistants. He lost an assistant a few years ago that he valued (can't remember his name) over money.
That said, there is nothing even close to what I would consider concrete out there right now. Even in the story from the P-D, one source says Painter called and accepted the job, other officials closely involved with the search say that they haven't heard from him yet, and Purdue says they haven't been informed that he was leaving. That story was posted almost 3 hours ago, and nothing concrete has been picked up by any mainstream sports news source yet. Three hours is a VERY long time in the news cycle if that story had any credibility at all. The fact that nothing has happened yet, even 3 hours later, makes me pretty skeptical.
That doesn't mean that Painter doesn't end up taking the job. But I definitely don't think it was a done deal 3 hours ago. This just seems like a guy talking about both sides of his mouth, providing sources who say they haven't been called (Mizzou) or informed (Purdue), while still being able to stake claim to "I told you so".

Sounding more and more like it's a done deal. So the Big 10 lost one coach from Illinois and one from Purdue, both going to the Big 12. That's saying something. With the new format and the new coaches the Big 12 is going to be a really good basketball conference. Give it a couple of years and we might have multiple teams capable of going to the Final Four. Look out Big East.
