Quoting the first post in a thread

It allows you to show what post you are referring to. The main exception I see is when someone has a huge first post and it just makes it harder to scroll.

Why? Think about it. (Yes, I have caught myself doing it too)

Works for me.
On a practical note, some threads move quickly enough that it's handy to quote that first post, just in case things explode while typing a reply.

I find it more effective to quote all posts in a thread to provide proper context.

Threads here never derail or take wild tangents, so I agree with OP in that it is utterly pointless to quote the first post.

Its really annoying when the original post is a mile long, and it gets quoted in its entirety, and the reply is something like "I totally agree".

People should use quoting etiquette in general, and manually cut out unnecessary parts. There's only so many hours in thew day to scroll and scroll through some threads. Especially when a thread turns into a ******* match between 2 individuals and they are already quoting like 38 quotes, which takes up a mile of screen.
