***Official Press Conference Thread***

I think CPR is just a very intense guy who's just had a very intense day, and I wouldn't read anything into it. The big thing is we had no negative surprises, and I'm very happy about that.

He said he was going to be shouting because the speakers weren't working right.

Rhoads seemed a bit edgy to me. I think he was also hoping for a few signing day commits to come our way. He didn't seem real happy. He put his best spin on it, but he just didn't seem like the normal Paul Rhoads to me?

Maybe you were looking at a guy who had a lot on his mind and didn't sleep very well the last 48-72 hours. Maybe that guy had one too many cups of coffee prior to the presser thinking that would cut through the fog a little bit.

Maybe I have no idea what is going on...

I'm pretty sure this class counts Nick Kron who greyshirted this fall. That's what it sounded like to me.

I guess Rhoads is happy with 6 scholarship DT's?

He also said they recruited every single position on both sides of the ball in this class, even though we have no DT commits? And he specifically stated that everyone is going to start out at the positions they are listed at. So that does not jive at all.

Better win a bowl this year to help out next NSD. Start up the UCONN and Iowa non conference discussion again.

Yep. But obviously the coaches wanted some immediate help on the interior DL as well, based on the fact that we were actively recruiting several JC DL.

Next year's class will be key.

I would be willing to bet that we see a JUCO addition sometime over the next few months that will be available to come in the summer. Sometimes there are late qualifiers and other non-standard situations that let decent JUCO guys become available after signing day. I am actually not worried at all about next year on the D-Line - it's actually 2012 and beyond that concerns me.

No doubt about it, though that next year will need to be a class that is heavy on DL, barring some position switches and late additions. I am not in panic mode over it, but I would say I am concerned about the pipeline there whereas I am just giddy over the pipeline in some other areas like OL, QB, LB and DB. It's almost like I feel like we have upgraded all other position groups over the late McCarney era and Chiz era and have really whiffed in a major way for two straight years on the DL. I trust that this regime will have a plan, but I think we are clearly looking at Plan B or C on that D-Line, and my fear is that won't be adequate to out level of competition in the new Big12.

Cheers

I agree completely. More depth would have been great for next year.... but what I am really worried about is what it will look like when next year's JR class graduates (Mcdonough, Lang at DT, Nelson and Magitt at DE). Just not many bodies in the pipeline to develop at this point. But they can fix the problem with good DL recruiting next year, but man they really can't have another year of whiffs at the position.

Don't forget they told one to take a hike if he wanted to wait longer for a bigger offer.

You're assuming our class isn't full.

Why is everyone so worried about D? We were pretty solid last year.

Our offense NEVER moving the ball was our WORST D.

I was hoping we could have grabbed 1-2 more WRs. We are 0fer the roster with consistent play making WRS. Hopefully someone ends up stepping up.

100% of my concern is on the offense.

Our DTs will be fine next year, we add Rony Nelson. Nothing too terrible to worry about.

I always thought it our D started games well, but wore down after the offense consistently gave the ball back.

I think we can infer that there are at least two spots that could be used given that we were waiting on both Grady and Green. I could be wrong about that but I don't think we would have turned away any of the 22 we had sign to make room for those two. I could be be thinking about that wrong, but I was thinking we had two more spots for those guys if they went our way in the last minute pick-o-rama circus of recruiting fun.

I think we might sign a couple more guys for that same reason, I don't think we would have been able to kick any guys off the team or take away schollys. Interesting because if we bank these for next year it isn't like we are leaving any schollies on the table like we would be in previous years because we are up against the total scholly limit.
