Three years ago, Drake shocked the bball world under 1st year coach Keno Davis. Picked to finish near the bottom of the Mo. Valley, Drake had a skinny 6'8" post player who was more of a 3-point threat than an inside threat. They had a shooting guard who could hit 3's from downtown Des Moines, and a PG who could penetrate and get the ball to the shooters. They finished 1st in the league and went to the NCAA tourney.

The Mo Valley is not the Big 12, and I'm not predicting that the Clones will win the conference, but it's a good omen anyway.

We'll know by the end of the week. If they can win 2 on the road this week, i'm all in

We also run a similar offense.
Drake had a decent team that was hard to defend playing a very easy schedule which led to 30 wins.

Drake seemed to never have an "off" night that whole year. I remember night in night out waiting for the other shoe to drop and the only thing that kept dropping were more threes.

As others have mentioned, they styles are similar but our competition is much more difficult. If we can win these next two on the road then you might be on to something.

Don't know if it's a great comparison, at least not yet, but I just hope our season doesn't end like Drake's did that season.

I'll take a loss in the first round of the NCAA tourney right now if offered.

Given that our most likely season ender is no tournament or the NIT, I'd gladly trade in the small chance of an NCAA tournament with a chance to win games in it for a guarenteed first round loss in the NCAA tournament if the basketball gods gave me that choice.

While I hope we make the NCAA tournament I do not see much accuracy in the comparison. A great coach built that program and Keno got the benefits of that. Our current program was built by..., well never mind.

In the big scheme of things, so would I, as even getting to the tournament would be beyond my wildest dreams. I guess I'm just thinking about the absolute heartbreak that Drake experienced with that kind of loss.

Not just Drake either. As a dual ISU/UNI fan, last March I flew down to Oklahoma City to watch UNI play. The morning after Thursday's UNI win against UNLV I was having breakfast at IHOP when I ran into a UNLV fan in passing. We made very quick small talk and we talked about last night's game and I complimented him on what a great game it was and how impressed I was with UNLV. He said something along the lines of "Yeah, but it still hurts." If you will remember, UNI won on a 3-point shot with about 4 seconds left or so.

To put it more simply, if ISU lost in the same way Drake did, for me personally that would equal the pain of losing to Hampton back in 2001. Worst pain I've ever felt as a sports fan. I lost sleep that night after that game.

Losing on a buzzer beater when tied is nothing compared to losing when ahead like Drake was.

That's not really a fair comparison though, the baskets at the Knapp Center are much closer to downtown Des Moines than the baskets at Hilton. Of course, there was that game where Scott had to throw an inbound pass to JVB, who was downtown Des Moines, and he then hit the game-winner from said downtown.

That lame joke made, I hope our future is much brighter than Drake's was that season, and I don't just mean the way that season ended...

So you're saying Fred will springboard to the Big East off this season?
