I found this on CSTV where they have him rated as the 28th best prospect for the class of 2010. I thought that was pretty impressive and it is great to see our name behind him. I noticed a little lower that there is a Larson kid from Sioux Falls. Is he someone that we are recruiting?

Yea, He is something else. I'm from that area and my brother played against him last year in districts in Febuary and Mac came up to watch the game. He was a freshmen last year and he had already signed and they also have another kid that was yet unsigned that was as tall as he was, and everyone thought he was headed to ISU too. It could be two big recruits

what do u know about A.J. Derby form Iowa City? I see he is ranked right ahead of Dykstra

In addition to being from IC, his dad played football at Iowa, so they likely have an inside track on his recruitment. Supposed to be very athletic. Some question his basketball skills, but he is very young so he certainly has time to improve.

He plays both football and basketball and some think he'll play football in college.

Are we recruiting the other kid from Rock Valley as well? What is his name?

It seems like if you have offers that early, it automatically moves you up in the rankings. It's much easier to be ranked as a Soph than as a SR. That's because later on, the rankings are based more on AAU play, plus more teams have a chance to scout the kid and offer.

I'm excited for Dykstra, but he's going to have to blow up to be ranked this high in a couple of years.

I believe those are Van Coleman's rankings, which would explain why Derby is just in front of Dykstra,

Basically Van is the only guy that doesn't have Barnes ahead of both Dykstra and Derby.

I spoke with Van. He said if Barnes puts on weight he will be top 50. So basically what that means is that if Barnes puts on Weight he will be top 20. Van is an Iowa Hawkeyes guy so he kind of rates recruits based on where they are going.

Keeping in mind that I don't follow recruiting other than whatever is available here . . . but isn't Van Coleman generally considered a "know-nothing" when it comes to basketball in general and the fact that he has a recruiting ranking service is somewhat laughable? Correct me if I'm wrong, and no offense to Knownothing.

All I remember about Van Coleman is that he had Al "Vanilla Gorilla" Lorenzen ranked as the number one big man in the country when he was a senior.

Van watches a lot of basketball and probably knows a ton more about recruiting than just about everybody else - the problem is that when he's talking about recruits everybody is good. I remember him talking about Josh Crawford who Iowa picked up in the summer as a filler guy when they had some non-qualifiers. You'd think he was going to be a future all Big 10 player from the way he spoke about him.

Turns out he was terrible and transferred to pepperdine after one year in which he played something like 12 minutes all year. He watches a lot of basketball, I just don't know if you can really trust his rankings all that much.

MARCUS HEEMSTRA IS THE OTHER KID FROM ROCK VALLEY.HE IS A MUCH BETTER BALL HANDLER THAN DYKSTRA. MORE VERSATILE

sounds the the crop of talent in Iowa in the upcoming few years is looking pretty good!

I thought I saw a couple years ago when ISU, iowa, Creighton, and UNI were in the tourney, there were per capita the highest numbers of players in the tourney from Iowa than any other state. Pretty cool!

I am curious about Rock Valley and that Heemstra kid. I really haven't heard much of anything about him though and the coaches are obviously looking at other big guys in the class. Good luck to Marcus though.
