Want another Minny transfer?

He's got one year of eligibility left. I don't believe the NCAA works in semesters for eligibility remaining/used, just years. But he would be eligible to compete in 2nd semester of 2011-2012 year. Or he can play one full year, in the 2012-2013 season.

I've seen him play plenty. He can light it up from the outside. Or he can stink. He's an average defender at best. It appears he had coachability issues with Tubby. I don't want him on our team.

OSU built a program on transfers and second chances. If a transfer or juco makes sense to the coaching staff then they have my support.

We've got enough transfers for now. Iowa State needs to start building a stable of usable players so we aren't faced with having 6 players to open conference play.

You do realize all our transfers will be eligible next year when he'd be sitting?

People are honestly saying 'pass' and 'no thanks' to a collegiate basketball player who could play next season shooting 39% from the 3 point line. Possibly a friend of Royce White and could help make his adjustment at ISU a little bit easier. Honestly we get 2 star and some 3 star basketball recruits. So if a guy who avg. 11 ppg for a ranked team comes to ISU to play one season I am okay with that.

Correct me if I'm logical here, but...

1) from everything we've heard, Royce is having no trouble aclimating to Ames.

2) from everything we've heard, it was Royce's friends and situation near his home in Minnisota that were a major factor in his continued issues.

3) we've got a pretty stellar group of recruits coming in next year already, the lion's share of them being guards.

So, yeah, still seeing no reason to go after him hard.

Just to let people know....apparently Chris Allen had coachability issues at MSU...and he has one year left....what standard are we using when evaluating players....

1.) Ya he probably isn’t, but I guarantee you he isn’t pumped sitting in Ames, IA every weekend having to watch his team play. Don’t you think he would feel a little bit better if a teammate joined him.

2.) I heard a reason to choose Ames was to be closer to friends and family. Thats why he didn’t go to Kentucky.

3.) Last time I heard we don’t have a true PG for next season.

Also for our recruits I am going to be safe and say Devoe Joesph had a lot better resume coming out of high school than any of our recruits.

Also I am not saying recruit him hard all I am saying if he wants to come then why not give him a chance. I mean we are giving a back-up QB a chance why not him.

He's got team mates with him. A dozen of them. Scotty, DG, Babb, Allen, Lamb....

Let me reiterate: we've seen every indication that Royce is happy as heck in Ames, loves his team mates, is having a blast playing his role on the practice squad for the year. would he prefer to be playing? Sure. But that has nothing to do with how many other kids from Minny are here.

One more time: everything we are seeing is that he's happy here, not the opposite.

Ames is closer to friends and family than Kentucky.

Doesn't mean that a huge portion of his problems in Minnesota were associated with the same old crew he'd always run with pulling him into bone-head activities.

Just because the kid wants to be able to visit his friends and family during breaks doesn't mean that those friends weren't a major part of his problem, whether he sees it or not.

Tavon Sledge would disagree, and Fred would agree with him.

First of all, Davoe is a shooting guard, not a point guard. We've got Chris Allen who, coming out of HS was the 5th best Shooting Guard according to Rivals, while Joseph was the 10th. So, coming onto the team next year is at least 1 better player, at his position.

Also I am not saying recruit him hard all I am saying if he wants to come then why not give him a chance. I mean we are giving a back-up QB a chance why not him.

I don't say we say no to him, unless we don't have scholarships to give him. Which we don't. You see, this transfer thing is the reason we're giving a walk-on quarterback a chance. We have 5 guys with scholarships sitting the bench because of transfers.

Next year we wont. We'll have a full roster, complete with those 5 guys.

Also, that back up Quarterback walked on, was already on campus, and wont be back next year. That's a whole lot different type of chance than bringing a scholarship kid in from a completely different school.

Really, 2 and 3 star recruits? Next years team will consist of mainly 3 to 5 star recruits. Take into account someone like Allen was a 4 star out of high school, but I'd slap a 5 on him now.

Royce White 5*
Anthony Booker 4*
Chris Allen 4*
Scott Christopherson 3*
Chris Babb 3* I'd slap a 4 on him now as a transfer, but rivals doesn't do this
Calvin Godfrey 3*
Mcknight 3*
Melvin Ejim 3* (underrated)
Jordan Railey 3*
The whole recruiting class are 3*, but highly touted 3* players.
Wont' count the walkons because well their walkons.

I think I'd take this guy. SC and Allen will graduate, and who is going to take their place? After the last few years, I think I'll take one year of a good player, especially if we're confident we'll have adequate depth next year. This guy can make plays, shoot the 3, rebound, and he doesn't turn it over. Initially, i'd take him over Booker.

I think he'd be a good replacement for Chris Allen since many of our guard recruits will only be sophomores once Devoe was eligible to play his senior season at Iowa State. I think we need to try the 'transfer experiment' one more year following this next year until Fred's true "freshmen recruits" are upperclassmen and can lead our Cyclones into the Top Half of the Big 12, where we belong. If we don't have a roster full of players who can have us in the Top 4 or 5 of the conference, we need to keep looking. Period.
