Super Bowl matchup predictions

Patriots look like a lock but just have a feeling they'll gag one somewhere along the way.
I think Atlanta is a fraud which would seem to be backed up by no one picking them in this thread. Way more people are picking the 6 seed who starts a QB that's never won a playoff game.

The only team that will stop the Patriots from getting to the Super Bowl at this point is the Patriots.

Patriots are a lock, homefield plus the fact they are easily the best team in the league. NFC? Complete toss-up but I'll go with NO as they proved they can win at Atlanta.
FWIW- Philly also beat Atlanta and they did it with Kolb as the starter. Eagles also play better on the road.

I like NE vs Philly/New Orleans.

NE is the best team inthe NFL. Atlanta is a paper tiger. The Bears have Cutler and he will fold. The Packers have been up and down. Philly was banged up and the best thing that happened to them was resting some key players.

I would love to see Steelers vs. Eagles. Steelers are my team and the Eagles have been one of the best offensive teams in the NFC so it would probably be a good matchup. I just have to hope the Pats get picked off by Baltimore.

Realistically I could see NE vs. Philly or NO as well. NE looks like the best team so I'm hoping for an upset somewhere.

Funny how everyone likes to call the #1 seed the "paper tiger". I believe everyone was saying the same thing about the Saints last year, especially after losing three straight, and they "paper tigered" their way to a Super Bowl championship. This Falcons team is probably the most consistent team outside of New England (certainly more consistent than the Saints were last year), and if it weren't for two very uncharacteristic mistakes by Michael Turner and the center resulting in turnovers and a 14-point swing (one resulted in a Saints touchdown, one prevented a Falcons touchdown), Matt Ryan would still only have only one loss at the Georgia Dome in his entire career.

That's alright, keep overlooking the Falcons. The road to the Super Bowl only goes through Atlanta, where if the Falcons don't shoot themselves in the foot like they've only done so twice in Matt Ryan's last 20 games, they don't lose there.

AFC it's going to be New England or one of the only two teams capable of taking them out - Pittsburgh or Baltimore.

Atlanta's schedule was a joke.
  1. They played the NFC West which was a joke.
  2. They played the AFC North and lost to Pitt and barely beat the Ravens at home (good win) with a TD with 20 seconds left. But hey, they beat Cincy and Cleveland.
  3. The South was a joke with the exception of New Orleans who they lost to at home and who they needed OT to beat on the road. And don't give me Tampa...they racked up their wins against the NFC West and the poor teams in the AFC North.
  4. They lost their filler game to Philly when Philly was starting Kolb.
I don't apologize for thinking they are a paper tiger considering they lost to both New Orleans and Philly already and both Ryan's 2 home losses came against NO.
BTW- Last year, New Orleans had played the NFC East and the AFC East and won that division. Tougher road than what Atlanta had this year.

They also BEAT New Orleans already, but yet you conveniently forget that one.

They also BEAT Green Bay, virtually everybody's favorite to make it to the Super Bowl in spite of being the #6 team.

They played the exact same schedule that New Orleans did (except for two games), and yet they're not a joke?

Patriots vs Bears. Do I think the Bears are the best team in the NFC? No, but the NFC has been so back and forth about who is the best team, and you never hear about the Bears, but they have the 2nd seed. I think they somehow find a way to sneak in. It'd only make sense...

I think you're on to something with the Bears.

Chicago is more than likely going to be playing New Orleans in the second week of the playoffs. On a neutral field, New Orleans would be favored in that game, but Soldier Field in January, with the Saint's style and injury situation? That favors Chicago. The game would be a tossup, in my opinion, and it would not surprise me at all if the Bears won it. From there, they would either travel to Atlanta, or host the Packers/Eagles.

Atlanta has a good home field advantage, but their offense is a type that the Bears D matches up against well, (Strong run game mixed with vertical passing) and a defense that will allow teams to move the football. I like Chicago's chances as much as anyone's.

And the Packers and Eagles are both teams that have gone to Soldier Field and lost, this year.

Like you said, I don't think the Bears are the best team in the NFC, but I think the way the seeding turned out, they have to be happy with the road laid out before them. It gives them a chance.

Then again, you can make a similar case for just about every other team in playoffs, (except Seattle)

Actually, I said they needed OT to beat New Orleans, so I did mention New Orleans. I also stated that New Orleans is the team that handed Atlanta their two home losses.
BTW- You do know that New Orleans missed a 29 yard field goal in OT to giv e thatgame to Atlanta, right?

I didn't pick Green Bay to beat Philly let alone get to the Superbowl so don't include me in that mix. I think Green Bay has been flirting with danger for a while and they barely beat Philly when Kolb started and Vick had his way when he entered the game.

And yes, New Orleans schedule was a joke as well. I didn't mention it because we were discussing Atlanta. I think New Orleans could beat Atlanta because they have and did it in Atlanta. New Orleans should beat Seattle then I like Brees' playoff experience over Ryan as well as their overall team experience.

Personally, I think Philly wins the NFC. They play much better on the road so home field advantage isn't as big of a deal. I think their biggest challenge will be Chicago. Chicago showed they know how to defend Philly...hit Vick and take away the big play. And even then, Chicago needed a tipped pass IN in the endzone to beat Philly. I don't think Atlanta has the pass rush/pass defense to do it. To me it is more about match ups than anything.

Of course, Philly could lose to Green Bay just as easy as they could win the NFC.

I would be beyond ecstatic if it came down to Packers vs. Patriots. We almost got them at home with Matt Flynn at the helm, and I feel like a rematch with Rodgers would be a great game. Just don't think the Packers have been consistent enough this year to go all the way to the Super Bowl. When the Packers are playing well, I think they are just as good as anyone in the league, but to do it three games in a row? I'm not completely sold at this point.

The Patriots have home field advantage, have been playing exceptionally well, and most importantly know what it takes to win titles. My realistic prediction would be Pats vs. Saints. I feel like the Saints would have a relatively easy route to get there, and Drew Brees has waaay more playoff experience than any of the other NFC QBs, which I think is key.

I will fulfill one of the items at the top of my bucket list and attend the playoff game in Pittsburgh. Got tickets today!

Super Bowl pick is Pittsburgh vs. Atlanta

I'd like to see Packers vs. Steelers

It will likely be Falcons vs. Pats

And for those of you breaking down how each team did and who beat who in the regular season: None of that matters now. We've seen that anything can happen in the playoffs, and just about anyone in the fields of 6 can make it to the Super Bowl

Seattle's crowd is really, really loud! :jimlad:
