I was shocked today that we didn't try and make the game more of a full court game. We were facing a team with 2 freshman in the backcourt and we let it be a half court game. Straight half court man to man the whole game. Anyone else surprised by that?

And he is the coach in his 7th game. Isnt a little early to start second guessing?

I'm not. Right now we have 1 guard to bring off the bench and two post players. We are trying to run on offense and I just don't think we have the numbers to press.

We have no depth...Rumor has it Phillips is on the verge of going back to Wisconsin....McKnight is being unofficially redshirted....So we have 3 guys on the bench...all 3 never playing a D1 game until this year.....

Shocked?

There were a few big reasons not to press:
  1. ISU isn't a deep team. We suited up 9 guys yesterday. Our second string consists of 3 freshman post guys and a RS freshman walk-on guard.
  2. Garrett is long, but I wouldn't say he is overly quick in the fullcourt. Not sure he's the kind of PG to force turnovers in the FC press.
  3. California might have had 2 freshman at guard, but Guitierez(sp) was pretty quick and long. IMO he would have shredded any press we attempted.
I'm more surprised that we continued to double-down in the post 100% of the time and that we haven't tried the zone to change things up against Cal or UNI when they got hot.

No, I was not surprised. We can't press much, the depth is not there to do it for a whole game, or even part of a game.
