Big XII Awards

Check out honorable mention...Knott as defensive player of the year and Rhoads as coach of the year. How does that work? as Knott is a second teamer. Interesting.

Jake Knott was also honorable mention Defensive Player of the Year. He should have been a lock for 1st team honors but the guys ahead of him where seniors

Honorable Mentions:
Kirby Van Der Kamp, P & Def. Fr. of the Yr.
A.J. Klein, LB; Jake Knott, Def. Ply. of the Yr.
Jake Lattimer, DL
Kelechi Osemele, OL
Paul Rhoads, Coach of the Yr.
David Sims, DB

In the honorable mention section they include the honorable mentions for the "of the year" awards. Paul Rhoads was honorable mention coach of the year.

Honorable mention for Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year probably means that they did receive votes for that honor.

Which in my mind is sad that you can get votes for defensive player of the year, yet end up on second team defense!

I think it shows that Jake Knott is very well respected. He got votes for DPOY but Lavonte David and Orie Lemon did not, though they were 1st team players and he was not

I wonder what the criteria is to be honorable mention for the "of the years?" One vote? At least two votes?

Yeah, I just thought it was interesting how Knott got 2nd team, but then honorable mention player of the year. Great honors though!

Yeah they only LB in the conference who I thought played better than Knott was Von Miller. And Knott is just a true soph. Kid is legit

I give my player of the year award to Kirby. After our first 18 yard punt of the year, he was a godsend. I kep waiting for problems kicking against the wind, but he survived to have a terrific year. Too bad no one could tackle that Utah punt returner.

Not to derail the thread, but I thought I'd be the first to point this out:

Kansas had no 1st or 2nd team players, and of their three honorable mentions, two were kickers...

DJ Beshears, P/KR; Jake Laptad, DL; Alonso Rojas, P.

That is all.

Yikes. That doesn't bode well for the future.

When was the last time Texas only had 1 first teamer?
