NFL: Ellis Hobbs considering retirement

Ellis is one of my all-time favorite Cyclones. As everyone has mentioned, I don't think he should even be considering this. It's time to walk away while he still can.

He was always my favorite Cyclone, I would be a happy fan if we could get him back here as a coach or something. I was always looked at a little weirdly when I cheered when he said "THEE Iowa State University" or mentioned us in those lineups.

I agree. He needs to be on staff. The Hoiberg effect on the football team. Not sure how you'd work that without somebody leaving however.

Love, love, love Ellis Hobbs III!! I've never seen a player get in the middle of the entire team in between quarters and get them all jumping up and down and hyped like Ellis did back in 2004. I also love the fairly infamous picture (in ISU circles) of him and Tyson Smith posing with the Independence Bowl trophy back in 2004, with Ellis showing off the goofiest, funniest smile I've ever seen. The guy is tough, intelligent, hard-working, funny, and a huge advocate for ISU.

If he wants to get into coaching, he should be found a place at ISU.

Would love to find a place for him here if possible, and definitely want to see him retire if his health is an issue. That's a scary hit to deal with.

I'm sure that you could find a position for him. Maybe not in an assistant coordinator spot, but he could be useful in teaching technique while he gets experience coaching. I'm not sure that they are limited in the number of people that are allowed to participate in practice.

He could probably be added as a graduate assistant couldn't he? That would be a good place to get him started, wouldn't be too hard to imagine that he could develop into a permanent position though

He should definitely walk away from the pro game now. Every time he takes a hit from now on risks further, more permanent probably, injury.

So many things He can do . Man dont risk quality of life , heck you cant enjoy what you make if you are injured or dead!

I assume that he's fully vested for his NFL pension. As I recall, that's based on being on the roster for a certain number of games.

I'm sure that CPR could find a grad assistant's position for him. That's generally the "break in" position for a coaching hopeful.
