From what I've seen in the first two games, I like the starting five; it could be competitive in the Big 12. My main question/concern has to do with the depth. What are your thoughts?

It could get better when phillips is fully healthy. I wish we had a big man on the bench that was experience.

We've got no rebounding presence off the bench. That will be an issue as fouling and freshman forward go together like macaroni and cheese.

Let's hope that Freddy has them, as Tinsley would say, on a track scholarship because with the fast break offense and tough D that he wants to run there are going to be serious depth issues at times this year. I predict there will be times with each player that Coach Hoiberg has to play them more minutes than he would like in a game(s) this year.

It's no secret that the team this year is faced with some obvious roster limitations. They should have some success when the defense is clicking and the shots are dropping - not so much when they are not. The key is to lay the foundation for how Fred wants the program to develop. This is more important than any shortcomings that may or may not be exposed this year.

Really? The 4 and the 5 are both 3's and the 3 is a 2. Besides having three guys out of position, what else do you like so much about the starting five?

Give these guys a break. Enjoy their effort. It's not their fault so many pieces are missing. That would be Chewbacca's fault.

It was good to see us playing all non-starters at the end against Alabama State. However, I think our lack of depth will lead to us getting tired and having poor second halves.

I don't think that anyone was blaming the players for the missing pieces

My point is: don't set them up to fail with unrealistic expectations. The guy who says in November "I think they will be competitive in the Big 12" is the guy who says in February "this team sucks, they should be competitive in the Big 12". Losing touch with reality over two slappie wins in November isn't fair to the team.

Exactly why a lot of people are melting down over a 5 win FB team getting 5 wins.

My biggest concern is foul trouble. I think that's where we're really going to be hurt in Big XII play.

Godfrey is a good rebounder, but I agree with your second statement. Ejim and Godfrey both like to go over the back for offensive rebounds. They will need to be smarter or end up on the bench like Ejim did against NAU.

I think there is potential for them to be competitive in the B12. There will most likely be a few nites where we lose in grand fashion, but people overestimate the problems of playing guys "out of position". A guy like Jamie is a mismatch for the other team's big in many situations. Same for Jake if he's got a 3 guarding him off the dribble. Fred has less flexibility than other coaches with our lineup which will hurt, but I think there is some potential here for 5-7 conference wins based on what I've seen.

Our lack of depth really is a bummer. Most b12 teams that have four losing seasons in a row and lose their coach at the end of April have several studs ready to go. So disappointing.....
