Nebraska Fans

I go to school at Iowa State but was raised in Lincoln and am a Husker fan. I sat in the student section not wearing any particular team colors or logos and there were a few husker fans around us and they did not say one word the whole game unless it was to talk quietly to themselves. Every single iowa state fan screamed and yelled at them after every good iowa state play and I'm pretty sure I heard them get called every name in the book. And after the game was over they did not say anything other than, "wow Iowa State is going to be the real deal."

I appreciate that you can be fans of both teams. I married a Husker fan, and she's not likely to switch teams either. There's a lot of decent Husker fans, though I would question the wisdom of those Husker fans that sit in the ISU student section. That's likely where the most rabid ISU fans are. Huskers chose the south endzone in OT for a reason, besides the wind that is.

If you choose to sit in the opposition's student section, I think you deserve what you get (verbally, at least). Especially when you can easily march your happy *** to the hillside. Pretty sure you'd get the same treatment at any stadium under those circumstances.

Is it just me, or is the "Go Big Red" the stupidest sounding cheer in college football. It sounds like it was invented in Special Ed class. Not to offend anyone in Special Ed by calling them a kNU fan.

This is all I could think of the first time I heard it...

Yes that does make since and I do understand why it would happen i was more so just impressed that they were able to hold their tongues and not say anything back and were not completely dumb about it and say something. I was just very surprised about it and I was proud of those fans. And I do know there are stupid Nebraska fans out there that know nothing about the team and or college football for that matter and those fans embarrass the rest of us that do know something.

Why? Why not join us rather than cheer for the program that tried to kill ours. Easily half the people on this board grew up hawk fans. You have a choice to make son.

I'm not sure if I just walked in bid sentence but after the game, as I started my long walk back to freddy, I walked by a group of Husker fans. I heard the one that was talking say "we had Green out there and we still competed with those losers." Kinda ****** me off a lil bit but that's Husker fans for ya.

Ah I know its tough but I can't turn on the team I have rooted for since I could start watching football. I understand that 3/4 of the people if not more on this are going to hate me no matter what I say but I can't change who I root for. Every other weekend and from here on out i will root for both Nebraska and Iowa State but till the day I die I will have to root for the Huskers through thick and thin.

Husker by birth.
Cyclone by choice.

When I was a child, I cheered for the Huskers because I was told to. I cheer for the Cyclones because I spent six of the best years of my life there, met my best friends there, met my wife there, and really became the person I am there. In Jack Trice Stadium, I learned how to appreciate a win instead of expect it. True Husker fans are good fans, knowledgeable about football, polite, and probably are some of the best out there. But when the wheels started coming off with Callahan you could see how fickle a lot of their fan base really are. It's easy to be a Husker fan, it's hard to be a Cyclone fan. I'm extremely happy with my decision. Some of my family and friends feel like I've betrayed something by not being a Husker fan, what the hell do I have to do with the University of Nebraska and Husker Football? I cheered for them as a kid because that was what everyone did, nobody knew any better. You should know better. I am always surprised by people who "grow up" a certain team's fan but will cheer against their alma mater. Kind of makes me ill, really. Stop being that guy.

Not too late for you!!!

I was not forced into liking the Huskers though I chose to be a Husker fan and my parents move to Iowa and I could not afford to go to school at Nebraska and honestly can hardly afford to go to Iowa State and that was one of the big reasons. But no matter what even though the Huskers are going to the Big Ten, Which i was opposed, I still will be a big 12 fan and will root for those teams to do well no matter what.

....so you chose to be a Husker fan why???.... I'm not trying to badger you, but I don't follow any logic as to why you are a Husker fan instead of an ISU fan, especially after you moved to Iowa and went to school at ISU.

I yelled loudly when Knebraska fumbled the ball. Dude next to me turned around and glared. I asked him what his problem was. He "ordered" me not to yell in his ear again. I told him to go to an effin library, but being a bugeater he probably did not know what one of those is...

He then stuck out his chest and flared his nostrils. He was probably 5' 6" and 65 years old. I am much younger, and much bigger. By the end game he did not like me much...
This was probably the same Nebraska fan that turned around and told me to stop clapping so loud, in his hair. It's a freakin football game! It's going to be loud!

My rule is: If you got a ticket: you better be loud!!!

Had a fun time at Jack Trice on Saturday.. I've never understood people that complain about noise OR people standing at a football game!!! hilarious!!

STOP CLAPPING IN MY HAIR!!! hahahaha man I would have laughed so hard

I don't understand the rule that says you must support the athletic program of the school you attend. My neighbor's daughter is in her 2nd year at UNI, but she is a huge Cyclone fan. She doesn't care about UNI athletics at all. See, she wants to be a teacher. A good one. So she chose the school that fits her educational needs.

To me, that's apples and oranges. Not only is UNI in a different conference, they're a different division. But if you go to a rival Big XII school, or an instate rival, different story. I don't understand people who spend time and money attending school, and then cheer for their rivals. Bush league to me.

Under your standards, I should have been rooting for Iowa when I attended school in Iowa City. Man, I must be one of the biggest traitors out there.

It's a simple matter of community. It provides a common cause, point of interest, and something to speak about with your neighbors. Cheering against the home team (your home team) is disrespectful to your community. It's the same reason I have nothing but contempt for the SoCal transplants that wear their Cubs/Yankees/Red Sox/ etc hats to Padres games or Broncos/Raiders/whatever gear to Chargers game or Mexico gear anytime anything related to Mexico is in town or on t.v. You chose to be here, how about showing a little community spirit? I grew up a hawk/Phillies/Cowboys fan but gave up each team at the appropriate point in my life. I even cheer for the Aztecs as a secondary team nowadays. Being a part of the community is much, much more important than following some silly sports affiliation.

I disagree completely. Someone is not a DB just because they refuse to go with the flow, abandon their team and go with the local team. I think just giving up on your team because it is expedient demonstrates that you weren't really ever a true fan (fan is short for fanatic, by the way). If I have to move around a lot for my career, does that mean I should be changing teams every 3-5 years until I retire?

I'm sure I will get lambasted for this, but I think there is a huge difference between which pro team you follow and whether or not you follow the team of your college.

*A true fanatic would not say this...
