Good Luck! I read the DNR report (http://www.iowadnr.gov/wildlife/pdfs/arsrpt10.pdf) and the populations this year are at or near all time lows everywhere but in NW IA.
I will NOT be buying a license. I hope that the DNR does something to lower the bag limits or shorten the season so that the populations can start to rebound. I know when I started hunting 15yrs ago it was a lot more fun because you saw more birds.
I hope the population rebounds too but I don't think shortening the season or lowering the bag limit would have much effect on it. All about habitat and weather, not very much the DNR can do about those.
Shortening the season and bag limits would do nothing.
There isn't any CRP. There aren't any water ways. There aren't any buffer strips.
Until there is habitat, there will be no pheasants. Pretty simple.

I think the predator populations have something to do with the low numbers as well. Since raccoons became worthless and people stopped trapping them their population is out of control and they will raid nests. The hawk population seems like it's gone way up in the last 5 years I would think that's got to hurt some along with all the damn feral cats.
