Streak still alive?

Just wanted to know some of your opinions on the final touchdown of the game.
Personally I thought it was pretty bush league. Starters (with #2 RB) in with a couple of minutes left down 35. I would have liked to hear Rhoads explanation if AA or a lineman went down.

Not trying to get everyone upset or rub salt on any wounds, but I don't see the point of keeping the starters in at all against mostly 3rd string RS Freshman & Sophomores to break a streak. Just wanted to know what you guys were thinking.

I think I will put the streak to an end, but with a *.

Does your hair stick straight up in a somewhat flame-shaped configuration?

I only read about four pages of this and quit, but honestly, I'm disappointed in some of you Cyclone fans here. Everybody is getting in a hustle about Hayden Fry, yet not one person has mentioned the fact that this jack has claimed to be "just wanting to know how we felt" when in reality just keeps jabbing time after time about how CPR is classless, yet no one has given him crap for it. How point isn't to rub in a loss, it's to call our coach classless and no one has said a damned thing about that.

Well, here goes. CPR has more class in his left pinkie toe than Ferentz could ever even WISH he had. You wanna say a guy is classless because he left his starters in too long? How about a coach that makes more money than any other one person in the state, but still has his kid living in government funded housing? How about a coach that covers up a rape case? How about a coach that will look the other way when his star players break the law so they can not be suspended? If you want to talk to me about CPR being classless, you can talk to me when you have a coach that has a spine to stick up to his players. As far as I'm concerned, Ferentz is as much scum as Nick Saban or Pete Carrol, the only difference is, he STILL isn't good enough to win a national championship while looking the other way on his players misgivings.

Wow! Just when I thought this Dumas thread might have finally come to a close...

I'm going to highjack this thread if that's ok with everyone. Why is the In-State Rivals forum showing up on my screen when I'm not a member of the group? I'm not a member of the cave and it's not showing up but the In-State Rivals daycare is still showing up. The thread titles themselves are offensive.

If Iowa is as good as their fans think, the only explanation that I have is that Iowa let them score....it could be the only way....I mean how could ISU oven have scored at all. Wait, wait, wait. I remember now, they scored with their starters in because the football game was still being played. It's not too tough to figure out. Keep workin at it. You can use a calculator if you need help.

Ameshawk- you are no longer welcome in Ames. Please leave. Please

Sweet Jeebuz. The streak is over. Yes it was fun while it lasted, but the Clones put the football in the endzone. End of story.

No analysis of Coach's decisions necessary.

No philosophical discussions on the morality of keeping players in/out of the game necessary.

Well said and an accurate portrayal of where a majority of Hawk fans are with this topic.

We didn't "let" you score. But you did score against the 3rd string defense. That doesn't make that TD worth only 5 points or anything. But it has no bearing on how good Iowa fans think the team is. Because the first string is dominant, and that's the one you play with late in the game if you aren't up 5 TD's. Why on earth would we leave those guys in there and risk injury when the game was already decided?

All you are going to hear next year is how ISU hasn't scored a TD on Iowa's first string defense in 4 years.

AmesHawk -- put yourself in ISU's shoes. Would you want that TD monkey on your back for another 365 days?

This. NOW the talk can cease about scoreless TD streak. Except for idiots that insist on using an *.

That definitely isn't me. You guys scored, fair and square. The only time I'll pull out the 3rd string defense stuff is when somebody trys to say that the Hawks aren't as good as we think they are because they gave up a TD to ISU.

Personally, I was happy to see Arnaud finally lead a TD drive. He's a great kid, and I was glad to see him get a victory in the series, no matter how small it may be.

I personally cringed every time I saw Austen come back out in the 4th quarter. No reason at all to have him out there in the 4th, down by 35. If he had gotten hurt, we would be in a lot of trouble this season. As it is, we did score a TD, so yes the streak is over. Bush league or not...

Should we talked about what the Ol' Convicted Cheater Hayden Fry used to do when Iowa was ahead of sad sack ISU teams by 30 or 40 or 50 points? I didn't think so. STFU.

There is already an asterisk on the streak. It's there because IOWA LOST A GAME in the middle of the streak.

Who would have ever thought that thousands of fans would be bragging that they lost a game against an opponent who didn't score a touchdown? Only idiots would.

Missing the most important issues here. If the starting offense isn't clicking on all cylinders, they aren't going to get any better sitting on the bench or going through the same routines in practice. Live game snaps are the best opportunity to get on track. The staff knows this and made the right playing time decisions in the 2nd half.

The getting hurt argument doesn't hold water. Name the last time that we have seen a significant injury during mop-up time in a game. Late game injuries due to fatigue are one thing, but that wasn't a factor Saturday. Injuries are part of the game and can occur just as easily early in the game, at practice, or even during non-contact drills. The starters clearly needed time on the field to work on execution and the coaches acted accordingly.

This is true, but the streak was still worth bragging about. It's not like you win with just FG's every day. The chances of doing it are relatively slim. I'll take the odds of winning when you don't allow a TD, every day of the week. For the defense, not allowing a TD for 4 years is very impressive. You guys got the great matchup with Bates vs. Klink that set up the game-winner. But our offense was HORRIBLE in 2007. The defense did more than enough to win if they were paired with an even semi-competent offense. But you guys earned that win fair and square.
