Sorry if this has been answered already, but what was the flag on the final play of the game.

I was just waiting for the refs to call and facemask and force all the people off the field so the hawks would get one more play.

Someone had mentioned that there were a bunch of illegal blocks by Iowa, so most likely if he'd made it back to the end zone, it would have been called back and the game would have ended.

I assume it was holding. Iowa was holding all over the place on that last play.

It had to have been a block in the back. It happend really late in the play and was well behind the return man at that point.

That last play scared the crap out of me. Why not just squib kick it to one of the hands team guys? The game is over once they touch it.

I had figured as much, thats the typical penalty on the kickoff return. I kept watching the refs and saw them leave the field, so it must have been something on the hawks.

Would have been something if it was on us...

"Will all 5000 people currently on the field please return to your seats, there was a face mask on the cyclones, it will be hawks ball at the 30" :biglaugh:

...they might have had to call in the riot police or national guard to clear the field.

I hurried home and turned on the DVR to see what it was up with the final play. We weren't offsides, and tackled him from behind so it wasn't a facemask. Then I saw the slow-motion and it was block-in-the-back city! Had to be one of those that they called.

Illegal participation ... we had 3,000 students on the field CELEBRATING ANOTHER CYCLONE VICTORY over an over-rated Iowa team.

I don't believe that they were rated at all. I hate when fans say that the team they beat was "over-rated", it doesn't any credit to the team that you root for...

I won't lie... I was a bit worried about that one after the field goal...

I hadn't noticed the flags though... couldn't see the jumbotron and was probally already on the field  (out of sheer neccesity... ever try to stand your ground against 7,800 students? It's not easy....)

Ditto on this. I actually twisted my knee so that I wouldn't get trampled. Now, it wouldn't be a big deal, but I have a stick, so now it hurts like hell to shift to go anywhere. F you people shoving me, F you...

wah wah wah :realmad: that goes with the territory.

we beat iowa. coach chizik won his first game at iowa state. we won in a last second play. we rushed the field. easy concept.

What was the last penalty?

Does anyone know what the last flag was thrown for? Could there have been a possibility of one un-timed down for Iowa? Could they have then tried a field goal if we committed some sort of penalty? Thank God the student section exploded on to the field to seal the victory:wink:.

I watched the game last night on my dvr...I saw three different flags thrown on the field...the first one looked to be an obvious hold early in the return....the second was a possible block in the back and the third was another hold late in the play...

I kinda laughed to myself thinking how funny it would have been to see the looks on the Hawkeye's faces had they scored that touchdown, only to have it called back on three different penalties...

Is there any reason that we didn't call a timeout with 3-4 seconds remaining instead of 5? I imagine there would have been some PO'd callers had Iowa actually returned that for a td. Even I know that you call the TO with 3 seconds left when playing NCAA 08 on 360:skeptical:

The theory is so you have time to call a timeout and re-try in case of a botched snap, although even with 5 seconds it'd be close, but that's I'm sure what they were thinking.

The real question is why does the ball even come close to the return men on the kickoff? Kick it 10 yards and fall on the fat guy that catches the ball. If your going to squib it, squib it short, if your going to kick it long might as well get some air under it and let our special teams get downfield.

basically EVERY Iowa player was holding... some did it to three other players.... It easily could have been an 180 yard penalty.

-keep.

That would have been great. It would have been meltdown city if that would have occured. I wish OLN would replay the game, I forgot to tivo it.
