Good God, some of you people are very naive. Drew IS cheating. And as far as if we should question our own program if we land top 50 players right and left like Baylor, there is a difference. Hilton has fans, Waco doesn't. It would make more sense for high caliber players to come to ISU than Baylor in the first place.

I have no idea what Mack Brown has to do with this, but yeah I could see why Bob Knight would be jealous. Baylor's recruiting has pushed their program well ahead of Texas Tech, and Knight didn't exactly leave that program loaded with talent for his son.
Couldn't schools like UNC and Kansas and Texas make this same argument if we start landing top 50 players? I mean they have better tradition, a larger fanbase, more players in the NBA, why would a player ever want to go to Ames when they could go there? It's pretty funny that you think no one should ever want to go to Baylor but it's perfectly reasonable they go to Ames.
Dear god this thread is chock full of misinformation. It really is hard to even know where to start. But about all this talk of other coaches hating Drew, it is primarily related to Rick Barnes. Rick Barnes and Coach Drew do not have a good relationship, and much of this is due to "negative recruiting" (not illegal) that took place early on during Drew's time at Baylor. The Bob Knight incident in the bathroom did happen, but it was because of the brochure Drew sent out to a recruit that commented on Knight having never signed a MAA as a coach at Tech. Drew was young and had a lot to learn at the time.
I watched Bob Knight talk VERY positively about Drew multiple times on ESPN last season.
I watched Bill Self talk VERY positively about Coach Drew and his job at Baylor on ESPN last year during the NCAA tournament after Kansas was knocked out and Baylor was still in.
Coach Martin at KSU called Coach Drew immediately after Baylor's Sweet 16 win to congratulate Coach Drew on his huge accomplishment.
Coach Turgeon at A&M is said to have the closest relationship with Drew of any Big 12 coach (despite the fact that the two schools are bitter basketball rivals).

I have yet to see anybody go on ESPN and say anything negatively about anyone. That isn't there MO. To say that so and so went on ESPN and said something nice is like saying the sky is blue and it is hot in the summer. That is what happens on a network that is to safe for it's own good.
Self/Barnes/ and pretty much every other coach in the Big 12 hates Drew. He has kept players from killing each other and lying about it, so i guess it is an improvement.
I found a link to this thread, decided I'd check it out, and the comments on here are ridiculous. Everyone keeps talking about all of these great recruits Baylor has landed. At last count Baylor has one 5* recruit in it's entire history (Perry Jones) and two McDonald's AA. Out of Baylor's starting 5 in the NCAA tournament three years ago, none were in the Top 50 nationally coming out of high school. Curtis Jerrells wasn't even in the Top 100, and now he's in the NBA. I'd say that type of player development makes a pretty good selling point to top recruits!

There is so much mis-information on this thread, that it really is laughable. To the guys spouting off that Drew landed 4 and 5 star players from the start: that is 100% false. Truth is, we have only EVER landed one five star guy, Perry Jones, and it wasn't until this past offseason. The only other 5 star guy we have had commit was yesterday, Isaiah Austin. The guys we used to build the program from scratch? They were mostly lightly regarded guys, or if they were well-thought-of, they were guys Drew had to outwork everyone else to get. Most of them came because they would play right away, and admittedly, have said they didn't realize how bad the situation was until they got in school. To their credit, all of them stuck with it, and it's paid off.
Guys like Curtis Jerrells (who, despite being a 3 star, wasn't recruited by most major programs), Aaron Bruce (a three star Australian with few high major D-1 offers), Henry Dugat (a 3 star guy that UT wanted, but got in on too late in the game), Kevin Rogers (a 4 star guy who was thought of as soft in the post...turns out, he was), and Mamadou Diene (a 7-footer from Senegal who didn't really pan out like we hoped, but is a great ambassador for the program).

Before last season, there was even a frustration amongst some Baylor fans with Drew, that he was the "nice guy" who worked hard to recruit, but couldn't land the big ones because he wouldn't go into the shady places guys like Calipari, Self, etc. go.

As far as other coaches go, Knight had a legitimate beef with Drew, which is addressed in the above article. Barnes is a titty-baby who doesn't like that Baylor isn't playing the little brother role and is now beating him on the floor as well as in the living room. He feeds things to newspaper writers who want to "get in good" with him (Thayer Evans, Jeff Caplan) and they say negative things about him in their articles. It's ingenious of him, really...problem is, it isn't working like he wanted it to. Self got mad because Drew pulled his players off the floor prior to the game in Lawrence rather than having them sit through a 10 minute propaganda video designed to intimidate opposing teams.
Truth is, Drew just flat out works harder than any other coach in the Big 12 at recruiting. Yeah, he has negatively recruited in the past (maybe still does, I am not privy to that info), but that is college basketball recruiting. EVERY coach negatively recruits. You think no one has brought up the 2003 scandal when they've been going head-to-head with Baylor for a recruit? Please.
In closing, the NCAA has had their head so far up our butts the last 7 years that we couldn't cheat even if we wanted to. There have been two systematic reviews of the entire Baylor basketball program in the last few years and Drew has received exemplary remarks on both. So, either Scott Drew is a super-spy and is one of the most powerful men on earth, or he's just a great recruiter and a blossoming head coach. I realize I probably won't change anyone's preconceived notions, and I'm sorry if this is all unbelievable to some of you, but that's how it is.

To the Baylor fans here, answer this honestly: Do you really believe that Scott Drew is running a perfectly clean program? If so, what is the explanation for all the coaches that hate him and the rumors that he is not doing this all within the rules?

What exactly does "works harder" mean? You bring it up a couple times, but never really go into specifics in your thesis. The NCAA has set rules on how many times you can visit/contact a player, so what exactly is Baylor doing to "outwork" these other schools?
