MLB: Going to a game at Wrigley

I'm planning a trip to go see my Giants play at Wrigley in late September. There are a couple of things that are of concern to me.

- What's up with obstructed view seats? Is there any way to tell whether you are buying tix that will put you right behind a friggin pole? That could be a pretty ****** way to take in my first game at Wrigley.

- Where should we plan to sit? I understand the bleachers can be fun, but can also cause you to end the day in the hospital- especially taking into consideration I'll be rocking full Giants gear. How are the other decks in the stadium as far as good areas to watch the game from, keeping ticket prices semi-reasonable?

- Getting around to/from the game... thoughts? Don't have a hotel lined up yet, so suggestions on a relatively reasonable place to look for accommodations that would have us within a decent distance of the stadium for public transit or whatever would be great.

- Other stuff to be aware of/things to see/eat/drink etc?

In late september you will be able to sit where ever you want

Do not get obstructed view if you plan on sitting in the tickets you buy. Some can be VERY obstructed.

Basically you sit behind the vertical beams that hold up the upper deck

Late Sept...this year, you wont have to worry about where to sit.
You'll be able to move to a better seat once the game starts because there will be lots of no-shows.Try to get to the bottom terrace anywhere between 3rd and home.

Bring layers of clothes, if you get a cold front, the wind is blowing, and you are in the shade, it can be really cold.

Personally I wouldn't bother with the bleachers, uncomfortable seats, sun could be in your eyes and a lot drunks. They used to be the "cheap seats" before they became trendy, now they are just overpriced.

You won't get hassled. Plenty of Cards fans and Brewers fans come into town, and I have never seen a fight. Check stubhub or Cubs.com for tix, don't pay over face value. Staying downtown and taking the redline is the way to go. Very easy and the hotels around wrigley stink.

So many good restaurants, get on yelp and pick a cuisine.

Thanks for the suggestions from everyone. I found a very useful site (Bad Seats in the House Chiblogo – partially obstructed views) that has info on most of the obstructed view seats at Wrigley, so I'll use that as a guide to buying tix.

Personally, I love the bleachers. We just sat in them this last weekend and it was a great time. I wouldn't take a family there but the atmosphere is great. If you want to sit and watch the game with no distractions, I wouldn't sit there either. I agree they are overpriced though.

I wouldn't worry about wearing Giants gear...About 1 in 10 were wearing Reds gear this past weekend and were fine.

The most uncomfortable option is watching this team while sober.

To OP:

I went to a game last week and even then there were lot of empty seats and I could have moved around. It rained I guess which might have had something to do with it. I did get to see pretty much the only Cubs win this month.
